R6533
R6533
okay, i always thought Remington was not a good brand until i started looking up my knives and found different. However, I have a R6533 that is very worn looking and has never been sharpened. I cannot find it anywhere but the stamp has remington in a circle on the baby blade, the blade that is like a file is next smallest, and the larger 3rd blade has the stamp with underlined remington as well as circle plus R6533. i saw one that said bone but this one looks like wood. yes i took my teeth and scratched and i think it wood or it just cleaned residue off it...lol anywhoooo....can anybody tell me what its worth? thanks
Re: R6533
The stamps appear to be normal Remington stampings. The handle material is bone as is indicated by the final "3" in the pattern number R6533. The knife is called an equal end whittler, which is a nice pattern. The blades HAVE been sharpened extensively, so much so that they no longer retain their original shape, probably down 15-20%.
I personally wouldn't test handle materials using my teeth (or anything else, other than my eyes), on the off chance that I might damage either the handle material or my teeth.

Re: R6533
Stewart and Ritchies guide to Remington Knives places that knife at $250 I assume thats mint. Using Blades Guide scale would probably put that knife on the low-end at $90. Of course value on any knife is subject to many factors.Slim

Re: R6533

It looks like someone replaced the pins on the ends, they seem kind of large to be original. It is still a good carry knife and a good thing you did not throw it away

The quality of the pre 40 Remingtons will rival almost any brand of that time period. Yours has a fingernail file blade, cool little knife.

I used to play that festival every year when I was with a band called "Crossroads". This is a pic taken at the Osborne Bros. Homecoming Festival in Hyden:

Yeppers, I've known Vernon for probably 20+years, and Johnny "Cornbread" Browning. The "Pugo" name doesn't ring a bell with me though.

Re: R6533
I think that Paul Burns was married to Vernon's sister, and I think Vernon is brother to Manuel Couch, known him a long time too.
