R4393

I'm looking at what I believe is a R 4393 scout knife. It has an acorn scout shield, but no model number on the blade. The main blade has a short nail pull with no swedge. All I have to go on is my Remington book, and the pictures are not that great. Is this knife like it should be, or has there been a blade change? The knife walks and talks. The blades are almost full with no etch. The bail is good. What shoul I expect to pay for this knife with and without the proper blade?

Could you post clear close up pictures of your knife? That would help a lot. Not all knives left the factory exactly like the catalog pictures or discriptions showed them. There are a lot of subtle differences in the patterns. For instance Remington shows the RS3333 with a short pull and jigged bone handles. I have got one RS3333 with a long pull spear blade with correct stampings. Another RS3333 I have has rough black handles. I collect Remington scouts and hunt for the odd ones.

I went ahead and bought the knife for $75.00. Once I get it, I'll post photos. My guess is that the model number was inked on. (I hope)

Here is what I believe to be a R4393 as mentioned above:

There is no marking or sign of inking or grinding on the back of the main blade.

That is a RS3333, it should measure 3 3/4" long closed.

The pictures are not that clear but it looks good from here

Miller Bros. nailed it. It is the first model BSA#1496 introduced in 1923. With the single line bolster, short screwdriver and the one piece can opener. 1923 to 1924. Nice knife.

Yeah, I guess that I just wanted it to be a R4393. Now that you guys correctly identified it as a 1st generation RS3333, I think that it is way cooler! I've got a good looking R4233 on the way. I will post pictures. I hope that I can improve my picture taking soon. They can only get better!
