J A HENCKELS FRIODUR STAG LOCKBACK - NEED INFO

Post by CTAYLORMAN »

I just bought this single blade J A Henckels "FRIODUR" stag lockback. I have never seen a Henckels stamped with Friodur before. It is extremely well made, silver liners, nice and tight. Can anyone tell me anything about this particular Henckels stamping? Date range manufactured etc? Thanks!

FRIODUR is the name of the stainless steel Henckels uses.
I'd estamate the date of your knife to the 70's or 80's because it's etched and not stamped.
And that is just a guess.

Nice knife~
Looks similar to a Linder Lock back I have that was made in 1986.

Nice looking knives!

"FRIODUR" refers to the “ice hardened stainless steel blade blanks” process first used by Henckels in 1939 and later patented in 1951.

I briefly looked through a couple of Henckels catalogs and found a few knives similar to yours, but not exact. (One was exact except for a corkscrew.) Your knife falls into the 1939 to 1960s range; the latter date is around when Henckels quit making its own pocketknives.

"NICHT ROSTEND" refers to "no stain" stainless steel knives.
