I can't get the larger photos to show on my home Computer, but this is what I think:

1. That pin missing, or different, whatever it is says something isnt right.

2. Since I cannot enlarge the photos, I cannot get a good look at the shield, but looks like an XX shield on a Tested Stamped Knife, but cannot get a closer look.

3. I don't think the main blade is correct, nail pull to far forward?

4. Stamp does not look right to me.

5. And boy are thos insides nice and clean (sarcastic) I bet this knife has never been taken apart!

Those are my guesses...

Edit: Another thing me and Jeff talked about was, this is supposed to be a swell center, seems like the top swell is off from the bottom swell... maybe the camera angle.

Well, I'm not a whittler collector but IIRC this looks like a Camillus contract stamp and all those 83s that Camillus made for Case were handled in rough black. Knife also appears to be cleaned in hard to reach places, which is further confirmation that its been taken apart.

Hello, I have a 83 tested whittler in slick black. I compared it to the knife in this forum, the tang stamp is some different on mine the top of the "C" does not go as far over the "A" as the knife were are talking about. Also the nail knicks look smaller on my knife, this is hard to tell with the pictures being so large. Also there may be differences in the tested era knives.

The biggest telltale is the tang stamp! It was engraved! Nice of the guy to provide close-ups, as it makes it easier to see. The machine marks inside the stamps lines are unmistakeable.
The stag looks like nothing I've ever seen on a Case either; that was my first clue. The main blade is very smoothly reshaped, but it is slightly narrower than the '83's I have. Pretty good cutlery work, too bad the skill is wasted on an a**hole!

Hi is there information published or documented anywhere on '83 patterns made by Camillus for Case? I have never heard that before. I have heard of 048 patterns being made by Camillus in the 70's and of course the 640045 scout, the 62031 electrician, the later 61011's in delrin, and the later 6246 riggers with the locking marlin spike.

I read about the contract knives by Camillus when I was researching this one here. It has the rough black patterns, and if memory serves me correct they were the Case XX, which the reference talked about how easily the case XX could be grinded down and made into a Tested era knife. I think that was in the counterfieting guide.

That would be the one I own. Pretty sure it was in there. Think it was doing some comparing on the quality in the Camillus VS Case stampings. But like I said it was talking about the rough black patterns, not the stag.

Knifeaholic, check page 252 of Witcher's Counterfeiting Antique Cutlery. There was also a tested stamp that was used by Camillus for Case on the 83's(rough blacks) that resembles the one on the whittler Charlie posted a great deal. Also the blade shape bears an uncanny resemblence to thes e contract knives. I thought maybe one had been rehandled in stag. My computer evidently is not picking the detail up that some do, I can't see down in the stamp on the fake.

There is no mistaking that the tang stamp is engraved, blade runner. I sent it to Tony Foster, and he agrees 100% it is bogus!

I don't doubt that it is a bogus marking,(ebay is full of that kind of junk) I originally thought it might be one of the Camillus contract knives rehandled, and was just stating that I couldn't tell from the picture. And then proceded to answer Knifeaholics question. I never claimed to have all the answers but was just voicing an opinion, like everyone else. I thought thats what this place was for. I've been wrong before and if I live long enough I'm sure It'll happen again from time to time.

Heya BR,
Don't think anyone is dogging your opinion.
One thing that sucks about the internet is you can't read the tone of someones voice.
No doubt it is a fake.
I don't think you were wrong, just had an idea, like all of us as well, obvious fake, and we have shared a few opinions as to why.
Nothing wrong with that in my opinion!
