Old Remington Switchblade

Post by A&E »

I came across an old Remington Switchblade . . . just out of curiosity, is it illegal to buy, sell, or own these?

It's a Remington R8065 with camo-type celluloid handles, no shield, and it's pretty beat up, but the guy wants $20 for it, and I'd sure like to have it.

Any thoughts?

If you like it , buy it. $20 is just about a give away price. I've paid over $200 for some very nice ones. Theres a guy on ebay selling replacement handles for these knives for $30. I'm not up on the switchblade law, but I have read that if you only have 1 hand these knives are legal to own.

remington collector; "I have read that if you only have 1 hand these knives are legal to own."...  Now that's funny.

First check out your State laws, They are not the same state to state.
Then check your county and city laws. Some have things like a piece of paper as your being a knife collector. Then you can take them to knife shows. But not carry them in your pocket.
To many people think of any knife now days as a weapon. Just last week a school principal told me a boy came to school with a Boy Scout Knife, It was one with a spoon, fork, and KNIFE. He was suspended for a week.

Eric,
Aren't you in Oregon?
We can own, carry, buy, sell & manufacture switchblades here in good Ol' Oregon.
Probably the largest manufacturer of quality automatics is in Oregon City, Benchmade Knives.

Grab that Remington & if you decide you don't want it, we can trade at the Eugene show next month.

It just happens that Oregon has the strongest State Constitution in regards to the right to keep & bear arms.
