I belong to the NYSRPA New York State Rifle and Pistol association. Last year for the first time they had there annual meeting and dinner at the gun club I belong to The Wallkill Rod and Gun. It was a last minute decision and I was asked at the last to fill in and put on a display of knives from the area . it was an interesting affair lots of politicians the vice president of the NRA a chance to shoot many new offerings from various companies. Interesting information on how during Katrina many civilians had there personal arms confiscated for no apparent reason ect. I in fact liked it so much that I joined up. A group of dedicated people who feel the same way I do about the right to keep and bear arms.

This year since they had decided due to the success they had last year to do it all over. I was asked to display again. Frankly I was a bit surprised since this year they had lots of time. I sort of stayed back in the wings to see what would happen. When I was asked I was sort of hesitant since I felt they might be offering just to be polite and really I have enough projects . It was at this point that I asked what the program would be. I listened politely until they mentioned that the program would be dedicated to the Wounded Warrior project. Most of you may know that this is an endeaver to help veterans in any way possible to readjust to civilian life upon returning from active duty. Many of these young people have lost limbs, familys and in some cases even worse. It is a cause that I believe in.

When I heard this I said that I would indeed like to exhibit at the meeting. I also asked if it would be possible for me to donate a fundraiser to raise money for this cause. I was given the go ahead. In order to create this donation I started with the Schrade 1972 Bowie , the same model used by Colt the NRA and was the center piece for the WWII issue as well as numerous others. I went to my old friend Frank Giorgianni whom some of you may recognize as the man who did most of Schrades artwork for there scrimshaw line. He acid etched the blade. did the file work and cleaned up one of the surplus NRA wood boxes that I still have a few of. The knife carries the original Schrade electro etch on the tang. This is rather rare since most you will see are blank on the tang . These were made that way so that someone ( company) wanting an issue could put what they wanted on them Colt choose to not tang mark instead they put an electo etch picture on the blade. The NRA issue did use an electro etch ( which is the same as this one ). The WWII issue used a gold photoelectro etch. You could order them any way you wanted. When I was affialiated with Schrade I bought about 2 dozen of these with the electro etch. I still have a bunch but usually sell the plain ones since the marked ones are quite rare. However I felt one of these would be perfect for this cause. A friend of mine Paul ROOSA is a Jeweler in Walden and did the plaque . It will be raffled off on June 9 . You folks are the first to see it I am sending the pics to the organizer of the event after this posting. If I find out more about the tickets later I will post it in case anyone wants a chance on it. I picked the words to be etched on the blade and the plaque. I thought perhapes you would enjoy the pics please do not forget these people they did not forget us. Let me know your opinions on the knife. I think it came out pretty nice. Well Knowing the kind of work Frank and Paul do I was sure it would pass muster. LT

That is just absolutely awesome, The cause (Wounded Warrior Foundation), the art work by Frank, the plaque by your friend and the knife which you donated. I salute you all (in a Marine Corps manner, of course).

The knife & presentation is absolutely magnificent!

I too am looking forward for a chance to purchase a ticket or two to contribute to the Wounded Warrior Foundation. As a retired Veterans representative, you know that this is a cause near & dear to my heart.

I'm not one for recommending charities, 'cause everyone has their own favorites. My personal choice is the Michigan National Guard Family Fund. It's to help out the families of those men and women now being called into active duty. Just a suggestion in case Rich cannot sell us raffle tickets and you wanna somehow help out those who serve.

I have managed to have raffle tickets made up and they will begin being sold tomorrow at an affair at the Wallkill Rod and Gun Club. Some of you have expressed an interest in obtaining a chance on the Schrade Frank Giorgianni customized (1972 ) bowie. Which is being raffled to benefit the Wounded Warrior project. Before continuing I wish to express my thanks to everyone concerned with AAPK and this forum for allowing me to make these tickets available through this medium . It seems most every one agrees with the worthiness of this effort. If you wish to see more pics of the knife please check the previously posted pics in this thread I have also included a couple more with this posting. Donation for the raffle tickets are 5 dollars a piece and 3 for 10 dollars. Once again if anyone would like a ticket. please send a check or money order or money if you want to take the chance ( sending currency in the mail is not considered a good practice ). Please include a self addressed envelope. What a good point I told you I was new at this I would say Ray Carney NYSRPA. Ray is in charge of the event. He is an offical with the NYSRPA. Thankyou I better post that in the original posting. Or you can make it out to me and add NYSRPA. So I guess
