They were in still Wrapped in the tissue paper that has Product information and sharpening instructions.( these will be included with the knife)The Northfield Knife Co. went out of business around 1919, so they have been put away for a long time. Re: Northfield NOS found in a hardware store
Trail,
I bought one of those things..... Well, it said Northfield, so I had to have it! Mine didn't come with the paper, but it did come with all the dogeared, slipshod trademarks of a pakistan fishing sinker. I'm sorry I bought it.
Lousy pictures, but better pictures wouldn't do it any good.

Moderators, sorry I wasn't clear, not my knife, not my auction. I was wondering if there was any chance the knife was legit and FRJ answered that question. By the way, the knife I referenced sold for $40. The seller had some others that went for much more. Too bad, somebody got robbed.

Re: Northfield NOS found in a hardware store
the blade looks about 1/4 inch short, opened and closed. why would someone wrap a used and polished knife in the original paper and then try to pass it off as mint?
frj, at least your blade looks untouched.

Hi Chet,
the worst part about the knife is that it was so poorly ground. It actually does have a fair snap to it, but it is a clunker.

I was wondering about these knives too. The pictures were not very good, but it looked like the workmanship was not like old Northfields. The only possibility I could think of, was that the old guy in David Anthony's book that last had the Northfield tools and parts. If I remember right, he didn't do the best work.

I've only a few Northfields, I could be wrong but the I do not think you would find a NOS Northfield looking like that. Whatever it is it looks highjacked to me

Yes,sorry Chetr I just got back to the thread.I think I knew that from before ,but had to figure it out again when reading the listings they had.I remember when I learned that abbreviation, when they were selling the NOS Shapleigh Hardware cattle knives a few years back.I bought one and didn't like it that well.they seemed like newer made knives ,not what I expected.chetr1200c wrote:hey wlf, i know what pos stands for, but what is nosall these cyber shortcuts are kinda confusing and hard to keep up with.
