Hey all, My knife thats on so please educate me, I put in auction what I thought and asked for input, asking here also, just please dont attack, willing to learn but not defend myself, it is an old knife, I can tell that sold enough knives to know . But did it start out as another brand? to well made to be chinese, seen enough of those Chinese case xx while on the road and on ebay, could it be a contract knife? Could it be another older brand that started off as something else? Researched as much as I could and found a few of the 62005 & 9s 1/2 with the stamp on bolster but all two bladed and none with this handle. Possible handle's been replaced? I'm open to any and all ideas, help me learn about what to look for,(I know the stamps are always a debatable issue but I've seen enough variations on those to open my mind a little,) I avoid them for the most part as I mainly sell 1970s forward, on occasion I sell a older piece but try to avoid as I know the newer ones better and not as much toying around with them, I know a lot of you have bought from me in the past and I also know several of you personally, so I hope you know that if I think there's something wrong with one that I'm selling I mention it in the listing, this one threw me, it comes from a very knowledgeable collector where all of the customs and older production knives that i just sold did, not that it cant be a frankenstien because of just that, this guys taste in knives would lead me to believe that he would have caught it before purchase due to his collection and experience, Wishing you all the best:

jeff, it seems like your knife is quite attractive to some by the way the bids are accumulating. like i said, i won't bid on it cause i have never seen that pattern before, but it is eye catching.
i would like to hear from some of the more knowedgeable collectors also for their take and valuable explanation on this so called monstrosity.

I would imagine that some of the bidders would be informed case collectors? Bidding that high on something that i put a "doubt" on is surprising, I know there's a lot of new collectors out there but most from my experience stay with the lower dollar knives and not the older high end stuff, so i don't know, that's why i open it up for opinion's, no one has asked any questions on it, and i have a lot of bidders on it and even more watching so can they all not know? I know most case collectors can tell you the size of a knife that's been discontinued for 30 years! Along with the when it was stopped and all handle materials? Anyway thx for the input,

I have seen that bolster stamp on a couple of Barlows. Plus, the frame appears to be a Barlow that 'may have' started out with either pearl or wood - broke & was repaired (halving the handle material). By the way, nice job. However, the tang stamp just doesn't look right. the 'C' and the 'A' are just too close together & the thickness of the underline should be the same as the 'C' & it definetly isn't. Now I could be completely wrong here, but I've never seen a Barlow with that bolster stamp in a single blade - always a two blade.

My Case resource, Pocket Knife Trader's Price Guide by Jim Parker does not list any single blade tested knives with pearl and wood handle combinations. I didn't see any pictures of that handle configuration among the photos either.

I'm no Case expert but I'd plow around that one for sure.

now that knifeaholic has given his expert opinion on that knife, I trust that the seller notified the winning bidder on the new info received and gave that bidder the option of retracting his bid or purchasing it for what it really is.

I did, i pointed out again what I thought as well as what was thought here, i left it upto the buyer as to what to do, he had confidence in it obviously. Again, I go with the info i have and post with that, if i cant find info i also post that as well,
