Hi Bryan...
There are a lot of good pictures of old knife companies, knife boxes, knife literature, etc. scattered all over the site. What about getting them all together and put them in the articles and reseach category? All of it in one place would be rather unique. This site is already rather unique and I feel that there are a lot of these things that a lot of the newer members have ever seen., because they are so scattered out.I don't know of another site that has all the old pictures, etc, all in one place.
What do you think?

Yep. I agree that some great info often gets lost in the shuffle. That is one drawback to the forum structure.

I have a pretty long "to do list" going on at the moment, but I'll sure try to get this done at some point. I wish there were more hours in the day

The most common defense to copyright infringement is fair use. It is a highly vague (and therefore highly versatile) doctrine. The Copyright Act provides (17 U.S.C. § 107) that a finding of fair use depends on:

The "purpose and character of the use"—e.g., whether it is for profit or for educational purposes.
The "nature of the copyrighted work."
The "amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole."
The "effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work."
While all four factors must be considered, they are not exclusive: courts can (and do) consider other factors in ruling on whether use of a copyrighted work counts as fair use. Examples of fair use include:

Parody, most likely to be found when the work is criticizing the original upon which it is based.
Copying for personal use, such as the "time shifting" permitted by Sony, the "space shifting" permitted by Diamond and photocopying of books for research purposes. But if such copying is used to escape licensing provisions (as may be the case with software or technical journals), it may not be considered fair use.

Sounds to me as though the use of catalogues and price lists on your forum would be providing a source of revenue for the copyright holder if any still exists.

Any idea on how long a copyright lasts?
I won a 1925 Baker, Hamilton & Pacific Catalog from 1925, mainly because I want the knife info contained within. So if would I or would I not be violating copyright laws if I were to make copies of those pages?

First I am not a lawyer. I will give you an interesting link that rights have been granted to. I have read that anything before 1923 is in the public domain. Try this link.
