Vintage Case XX Ax and Fixed Blade Combo

Post by whitman75 »

Hey guys, I recently aquired this at a yard sale for 40.00. The patent date says 1935 on blade ruler and the leather case holder as well. I heard they had differnt versions. I was hoping to get any info on this item you could share. How long were these produced? Are these Rare? In really nice shape and extremly sharp. THANKS

The date on the sheath is right below were the knife enters the sheath on the leather, it says PAT.FEB 5.1935, as far as the Tang there isnt anything visible I hear the blade can be removed from handle and its as the base so its kinda hidden.

whitman75, That's a neat little outfit, especially sine it is made by Case. The ol' sayings like "you can't see the forest for the trees" or "if was a snake, it would have bit me" came to mind as I am trying to figure out the 2nd picture with the patent date on it. Somehow I don't see those lines in the other pictures? What am I missing here? I have a knife and hatchet set similar to that, it's not a Case, think it was made in Colorado, have to dig it out and see who the mfg. is. Treefarmer

yeh the knife blade comes out and looks just like the base of the hatchet, and it will be stamped with something around the hook,if it hasent been apart in a while,i would lube it up and wiggle it loose until it will drop down and come off with a good glove on as they can bite u pretty good, ive had many of these over the years and have never seen a case set with that sheath,i have seen a kinfolks set with that sheath,so im just curious to know if the knife blade says case or kinfolks,or as i found out recently at a show the chinese marbles set like these will fit and are being passed because these sets are many times just put together from pieces ,its still can be quite valuable

Hey Thanks for all the helpful info the leather sheath actually has Case XX Tested inscribed in the leather. Any idea why it says case's on the axe blade and not Case.

I have one of these sets and the scabbard buttons read "Case Tested XX" embossed into them.
