LTD BOKER KNIVES 70's

Post by cdbees »

Hello Everyone, I'm new today and have a much needed question to answer...I have owned the 1973 double shield boker since 1973 and I recently purchased the 1971, 1972 and the 1974. A EBAY MEMBER had a 1976 for sale and I bought it not knowing how many years they made these double shielded knives. I have never seen a 1975 for sale and only this one 1976. But, after I purchased it and received it, it looks like my 1974. The 4 is very distorted and can look like a 6, everthing else looks the same for both knives. If it is indeed another 1974, I would like to return it. My QUESTION IS DOES ANYONE HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF HOW MANY YEARS THEY MADE THESE KNIVES AND COULD IT BE ANOTHER 1974...BOTH ARE LARGE 4" STOCKMAN WITH BLACK DELRIN HANDLES...HELP PLEASE: CLYDE

Clyde, I believe the answers to your questions can be answered in "the official price guide to collector knives" fifteenth edition, by c. Houston Price. On page489, it lists the boker-wiss commemoratives starting in 1971, it lists these knives until 1989. If I read it correctly, the 1976 knife was the "heritage of freedom" folding hunter , and had no shield. You should be able to download this if you google it. Hope this is what you were looking for. Thanks Tim, I believe your exactly right, cause I did own the 1976 and it was the Bi-Centennial knife with cracked ice handles and it had the long glued on shield that said something Freedom. The other knives that Boker made after that was the story book knives and I had a few of those and sold them. So I am inclined to agree with you that Boker only made the double shielded knives from 1971-1974.....THANKS AGAIN: CLYDE

You are correct!
wissboker%20LTD.jpg
The whittler on top is a 1973 Wiss commemorative (celebrating 125 years of J.Wiss)
below that is:
1971 (7474 stock pattern)
1972 (7588 stock pattern)
1973 (5464 congress pattern)
1974 (6066 stock pattern)
Boker did continue to make annual limited editions after that, but not with the double shields.

In 2005 Boker did a SFO for SMKW that had double shields. It was called the "Tang stamp series". They had around 12 patterns in green bone, red bone, or stag handles.
