Often the smoother stag is put where the shield is going to go, to make it easier to fit. Case does this routinely; They have a lot of beautiful stag back scales!
sunburst, Bernie Levine was selling the stag for a friend, and advertised in the Oregon club newsletter. I never met the repairman from Henckels though. Maybe he'll be at the April show.
Thanks to everyone for putting up your examples. Please keep them coming!!
If we're not careful, we will become STAG SNOBS!! :shock:

Lovely e.g.s of stag everyone ::tu:: . I really like the variety. Sorry this may be slightly off the original topic. Does this one have 'popcorn stag' ? I always wondered about that term ::shrug:: There is lots of red with yellowish 'kernels'. If not, I would like to see some popcorn stag please. Thanks :) s-k

That's a pretty interesting picture upnorth, it gives an overview of selective stag types.

I personally like 3-5 in your photo..I love the Tony Bose products but I get a little mesmorized by the artistic beauty and the sticker shock :shock: .

This is only my opinion and we know what that's worth but I have to laugh at the different arguements where some Tony Bose collectors look down on others who do not use their knives as an every day carry. My gosh as much as I admire his wonderful creations the current price to own one is prohibitive to the average man much less spend your childs inheritance to whittle on an oak limb.. ::blah:: Sorry for the rant.. ::yawn::

I would have to say without a doubt, this is my favorite site to buy stag, camel or giraffe bone, stabilized wood (what I don't send to WSSI) and mammoth ivory.

The reason is that they update their website with pictures regularly. So, you get to see exactly what you are buying, each piece. Chuck and his wife are great folks to work with and offer good advice, Chuck is very helful with titanium questions too.
They also send email updates when something is added to the site.

Here are a few stag-handled knives (getting back to it). The first, the Case Bulldog, has even handles, but the jigging looks totally different from side to side. Talk about annoying.

Now, one of my recent favorites . . . this old Damascus blade Buck.

Oh, and just for kicks, my little Bulldog friend I know nothing about . . .
