yeah, I bought a more sophisticated one as soon as I figured out my simple one

. Anyway, red bone knives seem to be the hardest to photograph for me, so-tell me what you fellas think. I'm impressed with the 6x zoom for a $200 camera, check out the robin

If that is the same Schrade I think it is (The Family Schrade) Then I like to old photo more.

Hey MM, your photos look great. I cannot see that you had any kind of problem with the redbone..

The robin does look like it's been to the taxidermy though and put out on your branch...

What model camera did you get..?? I have a very hard time with pearl handles and photos..

MM the red is much stronger is this one with your old camera.
Or is it just my computer now not showing the neet RED color with it changeing to amber at the bolsters?
Your new photo looks brown on my computer.

The light was a bit different on those two pics Ken, she is really red though.

I use the Kodak easyshare C340 for my pics and think it works great. I've got a 1.0 GB memory card and when I'm ready I just pop it out of my camera and plug it into the side of my laptop and access the pictures.

I have a friend that takes some of the very best knives pictures I have ever seen. I asked him what he used for the background and he said he uses a styrofoam cooler, laid on it's side, with some in direct lighting outside of it. Some of ya'll might like to give it a shot. He uses a little 2mp, kodak point and shoot of some kind and a tripod. Sounds too simple but it works very well for him.

being the photographic and technological expert that I am...

I might suggest playing around with the color of the background.

I'm not sure what the rules of thumb are for photo composition, but you might use a subtle blue color or subtle green color to bring out the red.

Experiment and show us the results!

For reference, how did you prepare the blade. Is it 600 grit hand rubbed, buffed on a wheel, etc....might help everyone to provide you with some valueable feedback.

Sometimes the camera doesn't capture the color.
Background color can help as Diligence suggested.
You might also try a photo editing program like PhotoShop. I have the full version, but usually use Photoshop Elements 4.0, because it is easier for me to use than the full version, techno whiz that I am.........NOT.

A neutral color like tan may help bring the red out. I have a couple floor tiles of that color I am going to stash away. I know, I still need to build a light box. Well 2 actually, 1 for exposing stencils so I can make my own custom stencils to electrically etch my name into a blade. I wonder if I can just make 1 multi-purpose box for both, come to think of it; I think I can make that work.

Thanks Dill, I'll try that, ads for the blade I hand rubbed it to almost a mirror polish with 600 grit then buffed it on a loose wheel.
