Remington R2403

The Remington Corporation and the knives that they built have influenced the U.S. cutlery industry more than nearly any other manufacturer. From the time America was settled, to the end of WWI, American knife companies struggled to compete with Britain and German imports, but events that occurred during and after the First World War led to a great change in this phenomenon. Unprecedented opportunities arose, and Remington stepped up to seize the moment. In the process, they created some of today's most prized collectables. In an ironic twist, the next World War played the greatest role in ending the company’s domination of the industry.

Anybody know when this may have been made? Wondering if it should be cleaned or left as is? May have to start collecting Remingtons now.

I don't think that you can narrow the date down any further than 1920 - 1940. The knife was made on contract for Remington apparently (maybe by Schrade?) since it is marked with the straight line marking. Somebody should be along who will be able to identify the manufacturer.

Nice one.

I believe it was made by Schrade. It a shame that its in the condition it is. I don't think it has ever been sharpened. That would have been at least a $600 knife had it been in factory new condition. I'd just soak it in oil for a while and wipe it down.

The George Schrade Knife Co. of Bridgeport Conn. made all the switchblade knives for Remington on contract.

Thanks for the info. I will clean it up some and display it. It looks like it hasn't been sharpened and snaps good.
