pattern stamp question CASE

okay how does a pattern stamp get put on- does the pattern get stamped first then the handle numbers example case 47 first then 63 once they realize the handle will be bone? Or does the handle get stamped first or is it one stamp of 4 numbers ? if so, has this always been the same practice or has pattern stamp processes changed over the years? thanks so much in advance.

hey becko, the pat. #s are stamped in one line all at once. always have been. check our research section on case and the numbering system is explained. i hope this answers your question.

Hi Becko. I think it is one stamp of four/five numbers but, given the large number of pattern, handle and blade combinations, there must be the odd 'mistake' floating around out there. E.g. a blade stamped for a stag handle that ends up on a bone-handled knife of the same pattern. Anyone have any e.g.s like this?

Thanks smiling knife and johnnie ! well i was wondering if there was the odd floating number too? like the last two being a little higher than the first two? thanks so much in advance-- that is what i thought about it being one stamp -

if the numbers are not alligned, it's probably hand stamped, altered to deceive.
