Re: Knives Made Before The Year 1960
Dimitri,
I think your knife is a better preserved version of one I got recently.
Nice!
I had not seen that type of clevis on a Schrade Cut Co before.
That confirms what I thought must go there. Thanks.

No, you really don`t. Pearl on a regular or large sized knife is pretty scarce, and to have one with a shield is a bonusgino wrote:You dont see a lot of pearls with that shield

Re: Knives Made Before The Year 1960
I finally got one for this thread, a Camillus Sword Brand four line (1906-1945) from Orvet's AAPK store and now I know what
an old knife feels like, and this one is not like any of the others I own.
Now I have a standard by which I can judge other knives.
The closest thing I have to it is a Boker but still not the same action.
I haven't used it yet, I'm still enjoying opening and closing it. I have others I can use.

Based on the telephone number I'll say it's from before 1960.
The tang stamp reads: U.S.A. (probably by Colonial)

Re: Knives Made Before The Year 1960
I have this one, the tang is also unmarked as to the maker, but obviously it is from Robeson. The previous owner bought it in the 1980`s at a flea market and it was old then but never used. It was placed in a draw and left there till recently.RobesonsRme.com wrote:Willie, that Mount Vernon Dryer Felt locking jack is very nice. Even though it's not marked, I have no doubt Robeson made the knife. Mostly, that gorgeous strawberry bone tells the tale.
I've never seen one of these Mount Vernon knives with a tang stamp.
Robeson did, however, make the same pattern knife with a Kinfolks tang stamp and a "HUNTER'S PRIDE" blade etch and still with the strawberry bone handles.
Charlie Noyes
The unusual thing about this one is the etched blade, it is not marked "Mount Vernon Dryer Felt" like most of these you find.
My theory is Robeson made these for a lot of different companies and left their name off the tang as a cost saving measure. The companies that bought these gave them away free and needed to buy them as cheaply as possible.
Here is a picture of the old building http://www.flickr.com/photos/straightja ... 075335255/
This is the founder of the company, I think http://www.hampdenarchives.com/index.ph ... nt=1&page=
They are still in business today it seems.
