That Maher & Grosh is a beautiful knife. Simple lines. Functional. Nice green bone.

Here are my 2 remaining Ulsters, sort of a Beauty and the Beast theme. The smaller 3 5/8" serpentine jack has sunken joints which is a nice touch.

there is a lot of good looking knives here i only have one ulster it a jack with i think cracked ice scals and tang stamped utica arched over cutlery co over utica ny

Is it an Ulster or an Utica?

I don't think Ulsters were ever made in Utica.

ya sorry about that rite now im living in a camper while im getting a new house built so everything is confusing at the time being thats why i aint been posting much lately hopefully they will get it built soon before it gets to cold on me lol and i can get back to posting again

Another dumb question... but are the handle badges hard to find for this knife? I'm thinking about buying one. Thought it was a boker at first with that round hole, then got excited and thought it was one of the WWII "scout"knives. But it still might be worth buying. It just seems I can't find anyting with the shield still in it.

This is a small Ulster I picked up at a local flea market for $7.50. It's 2 5/8 in closed and it took an edge.

Those shields are not hard to locate. You can usually find several of them for sale at any given time on ebay......but they will normally be attached to the knife. That Ulster USA official Boy Scout knife as shown in the photo is about the most common listing on ebay for Boy Scout knives. With so many readily available that are in fully intact condition and with them selling for modest amounts, I wouldn't bother buying one without the shield then trying to run down a shileld to fit it. Now if you already own the knife without the shield that's another matter.

That swell center in the forth pic; do you know the model number?
I have seen the Ulster swell center like the Camillus #72, but not a penknife version.
Is that MOP or celluloid?

Here is an Ulster 63, which is the same as the Camillus 72, without the match-strike pull.

Actually Schrade & Ulster was owned by Albert Baer at that time.
He bought Ulster in 1941 & Schrade Cut Co in 1946. The Old Timer line was started in 1959, and the Ulster Old Timer was made circa the late 1960’s by Schrade Walden.

Sort of like Chrysler buying AMC and then making Jeeps in a Chrysler plant.
