Anyone Recognize This Tang Stamp?

I can not figger out what the cut-a-way in the screwdriver is for?

That is sort of an "easy open" notch so you can reach the nail nick on the knife blade. At least it is on my USMC issue Camillus. (pics later).

Here is a large stockman I found at a junk shop last weekend. It has the same stamp as the Gov. contract knife. More mystery?

I signed in to post an image of a Queen knife that I have with tang stamp "Q 77 USA", Q has a tail pointing right.. hande is some kind of synthetic material, it is a lockback..

Any data appreciated...

Welcome to AAPK.

First the easy part. The Q with the tail sticking out to the side like that is a tang stamp Queen used from about 1973-1983. The 77 is a year and means the knife was made in 1977.

Zooming in on your picture, it appears to me the handle is Micarta or another epoxy filled fiber-glass material.

I agree with your assessment of the handle material, some fiberglass and resin..

I found this knife while digging a hole, for a post, about 11years ago.. It had suffered a lot of abuse, I did a lot of work on it and it cleaned up well.. The dry soil (sand) here in NEVADA had no ill effects on the handle..

JerryD., I picked up the same Queen as your pics show this past Sat. 2 / 4 / 12, at a second hand / antique shop / feed store while I was in Virginia. We stopped at this shop in a crossroad burg of Waverly, Virginia. I'm glad I went back and dropped in on your message. A few minutes before I had posted asking about tang stamps, but I bought the same knife as yours. Yeah, after looking it over again, it looks like gov't. specs order. Did you ever have your knife re - worked as you mentioned you might ? Without even trying, I have ended up with a half dozen or so of the TL - 29 models, with, I think, 4 of them by different companies. They're not pretty, but plenty sturdy. I believe your right, that they would look good with the removal of the stripper / screwdriver blade, jigged bone handles, etc. Have a good one. Dale H.
