BEWARE eBay Knife offer Spoofs

Just wanted to let everyone know that there is a phishing scam going on with knife auctions on eBay. I am an active bidder for knives on eBay and I lost a bid for a Schatt & Morgan Knife on March 11th. I had also won two other knives from the same seller in the past few weeks. Yesterday I received two emails using perfect eBay graphics, logos and format saying the knife I lost the bid on was available for purchase because the other bidder did not follow up. This knife sold for $124. When you clicked on the View Auction button, the link took you to the original auction and seller, however the email offer to sell content asked you to type another link into your browser for purchase. It came from the UK and since I knew the seller was from Mississippi, it stunk!! I contacted the original seller and he assured me he did not make an offer, and I sent both emails from the Phisher to eBay. I am also a seller of toys on eBay and as a note you should always receive a Second Chance offer that can be clicked on to buy an item, and NEVER have to type in any type of information to get you there.

I heard of the same scam about a year ago on eBay items but it did not involve Knife auctions. It looks like $100 knives are enough to warrant a little Spring Phishing!

BEWARE of offers to sell you a knife that you did not win!!

For those of you using Outlook you can do the following to help eBay and PayPal SHUT DOWN these phishers. Open the email, click on view in the upper toolbar (third from left), then go down to the second from the bottom of the menu that pops up to options. This will display the routing of the email. Copy all of this data that pops up in a new window and forward it with the email to [email protected] or [email protected], whichever is appropriate.
When you sign in, make sure it says https//: in the address bar, the URL. If you click on the link from the email amd it comes up http//:, you know you have a phisher and never give any information about yourself, ebay and PayPal will never ask.

I had about a dozen or so last month, none this month so far, I turn them all in. They are preying on the lack of knowledge.
This is one reason why they are going to bidder 1, bidder 2, etc.
