Being quite new at this knife collecting, I'm slowly learning all the different styles and types of knives....but I'm confused. What in the heck is a "slip joint knife"?

OK my turn to learn.

On the right bolster is it always the tang stamped side?

I am not sure what word it is called.
Is there a word for the end of the knife that you see front and back right bolsters and the liners too?? When blades are closed you can see the spring end too. What is that end called???? right butt end ??

Dewman :-->I have collected knives for 50 years and until I found this AAPK site -- I never heard the word slip joint knife referred to. That's why this sight is great. You can lean a lot here. Oh! by the way anyone ever hear the word "machairologist" concerning knife collecting?

hey ken the right sige of the knife is called mark side, the left side is the pile side.

the end with the marked blade is the front of knife

the other end is the rear whether there are secondary blades or not.

Not the front but the END IS it called right end? and Left end?

Or is there a word for it like right butt end?
Then u see the END of the spring and liners and right and left bolsters.

I don't think there is a defined answer for your question. If this pic does not help why don't you take a photo of the knife in a position to show you question and post it. Sometimes im just stone stupid when trying to decipher words.

Edit: Ken, after reading your question again. Its my opinion that what you are looking at would be called a certain view of the knife. It would not necessarily be known as a part of the knife.

YUPPERS you got it my not as ignorance as I am knifer friend.
See I was asking the WRONG thing again it’s a view and not a piece of a knife.

That was a tuffy to ask and explain too.
