Welcome William, can you post some pics of the knife? Without pictures or the year its gonna be impossible to give you much help.

It's in the eightys with the lightning s in Case.

The significance of the penny and the knife is that there was a tradition that if you presented someone with a knife as a present ,that person was supposed to give you a penny or similar coin in return to ensure good luck.
