This should qualify as a foreign fixed blade, Helle HE30 from Norway. I am thinking that this knife is from the 60's. They currently market the same knife, different etch, and call it the "Jubileeum", or some such spelling as that. Have to forgive the crappy pictures, just took them inside with artificial light. It really is a beautiful, well made knife.

Here is a Fjellkniven I got a couple years ago.
I believe it has the layered steel. It gets wicked sharp!
I think Fjellkniven means mountain knife in Norwegian.

Draggin' out the Scandies now. Nice knives fellows. The Helle is also layered, must be a Norway thing.

Great looking Scandis. Next to pocketknives Scandis are my favorite. Two Pekka Tuominens, Veikko Hakkarainen Kullervo, two Iisakki Jarvenpaas, Horsehead puukkos and a J Rannanjarvi.

I had never really liked Scandies until I got one and felt what excellent quality steel they have in them! Mostly they aren’t flashy, I guess you could call them minimalist in design, but they are designed to cut and to do it very well! And ya’ just gotta’ respect that!

Thanks MB. Dale your right Scandis especially puukkos are a tool used in everyday life and are functional and not made for show. A dress puukko or the knives made for export like the horseheads seem to be more elaborate in design.

Here are some photos of what I call a fixed blade folder. Or we can call it a folding fixed blade, whichever. It is an Eye Brand and is the only one I have seen as an Eye Brand. I believe this was made by Puma.

Ray,

Several German knife companies made these over the years. I have seen many with all different marks. Your knife does not look like a Puma made knife. I am basing this upon the stag they used on their handles.

I am going to guess it is most likely Anton Wingen made that knife.

Speaking of Puma's, how did I miss this thread. Ever since I saw the Puma White Hunters in the outdoor magazines in the late '50s, I wanted one. Seven or eight years ago, the SMKW catalog came and they had one in there for cheap. I went straight to the phone and called but they were already gone. A few weeks later I found one at my local purveyor of cutlery. It's not very old. First half of '98 is what the manufacturing control number says.
The WWII Fairbairn Sykes Bead & Ring, I've had since the mid '60s. I don't remember where I got it but I bought it for just a few dollars. It's the reason I'm on AAPK today.
The bottom one is a little Hen & Rooster. I don't think that's the original sheath.

I don't have this puukko in hand yet the pictures are courtesy of the maker Pekka Tuominen. I ordered the knife in March and the wait was worth it.

Bill that is a beautiful knife. It looks like a fine piece of jewelry. Here are two inexpensive Mora knives my friend in Sweden sent me several years ago. The Frosts with the red birch handle is the traditional knife from Mora. From ragweedforge.com:

"The town of Mora in Sweden has been a center of knife making for many centuries. The naturally superior Swedish steel, combined with skilled craftsmanship, resulted in knives that became famous for their ability to hold a superior edge and sharpen easily. The smiths in Mora developed a basic functional style that became a classic, known simply as the “Mora Knife.” Until recently there were two remaining large companies in Mora, KJ Eriksson and Frosts of Mora. They have merged into "Mora of Sweden"."

"Mora knives place function before style. But the simplicity of functionality has a beauty of it's own. The quality and prices are great, and they're one of the best knife bargains around. They have the flat Scandinavian grind that goes cleanly to the edge, and come from the factory very sharp. This style of grind is easy to sharpen without jigs or gadgets."

This Edge Mark from Solingen Germany marked 480 is the only foreign fixed blade I own.
