They have a full set of blades now that would make a very nice scout/utility knife.
Spear, Coping, new Punch from harness jack, and the Caplifter/Screwdriver from the BF Forum knife. ::nod:: ::nod:: ::nod::

The folks at BF are hootin' and hollerin' about the problems with GEC bottle opener.

I *loathe* screwdriver blades on knives, but dang... a beer bottle opener is something I can get my mind (and empty hand) around. I would hate to spend big bucks on a camper that couldn't open a beer bottle reliably!!!

The BSA style knife is near and dear to my heart, but I have to admit that the BF knife picked the right 2 blades. Those are really the only 2 blades I ever use on mine.

Related... was at the hunting camp this past weekend for opening day and met my cousin's buddy Bob who showed off his Imperial fixed blade, camper combo, which came with a belt holster that carried both. The camper was beyond used.... abused is more like it. It had those hollow stamped metal scales that had been crushed and on one side, entirely stripped of plastic covering. Still functional and he loved it.

IM, that box looks great.
I have to say your #56 is a true piece of awesome, the custom work by Kaleb is great, but overall that knife is just great. 8)
I love edcing a #56 so I know how great they are, but the liner lock really sets it apart. ::nod::

Dave, Those are nice 'go to town' knives...... ::nod::

J2S - Thanks for the nice words on the #56 - They sure are the right size for a pocket knife. I see the
new #85 is just about this size, should make an excellent+ EDC. The punch in front is sweet, glad
to see the #85 with this configuration. ::tu::

How do you find that it carries in the pocket?

IM, there is something truly attractive about those new #85s. I keep from looking at them though, I love the dogleg so much that I don't want to ignore it's greatness by choosing another pattern. ::smirk::
I'm just gonna watch everyone else stumble over the #85's beauty, then I'll sweep in when the doglegs go on sale.

Johnny,

If you like the dogleg, you're going to like the 85s too. I was comparing them side by side last night. ::tu:: Those two are probably my favorite patterns. I only wish they'd make more 85s with an EZ open notch.

Took my son to hunting camp (northern VT) for the first time last weekend.

I had my Opinel in my pocket (per usual) but had this in my fanny pack. It's my old 2 dot 110 on which I've soften the bolsters a bit.
Image

While I was up there at the old family homestead, I fund his old hunting bag that had gone missing and in it, thankfully, found his old hunting knife which I've reunited with this hunting jacket (Johnson Woolen Mills) and rifle (a 1907 Winchester 94). Not seen in the picture is that the end cap on his knife has three grooves filed into it. My knife, on the other hand, has no grooves because I stink at hunting. But, I wear his jacket and carry his rifle now and take my son to the same places, so that's still OK.

And Johnny... I'm carrying my Ulster camper again.

Still have Canoe left and Half Whittler right.

Just picked up at the PO and put a lanyard on:

Sanrenmu 605 Liner lock. Blood red G10 tip up carry. One gentle pass on the pile side edge with a ceramic and it does paper like a champ. Built VERY well. If Case gets THIS factory to build TEK X they will at least be good knives even if Chinese.....

Well, as hunting season approaches Pa and the temperatures drop, I will be loading up for bear camp. Along with me will be a few trusty knives, but here is what I am packing today.
In my Front Right Watch pocket rides this Dogleg.
Image

In my FRP, my old #73, ready for another hunting season.
Image

In my BRP will be this #72, it slides right up against my wallet and it's not even noticeable.
Image

And on my hip this #73 scout from JWS, it rides great in the sheath pictured in my second pic.

gardog,

I get putting a scope on something like a Marlin 336 (one cousin has his set up that way) but not on a Winchester. That Savage looks great, btw.

Hunting in VT was a good time, but no deer (my traditional result). In fairness, the family hunting camp is pretty high up, at around 2500' and near the top end of the hard wood. Moose have really spread into the higher elevations since the mid 90s and deer are mostly found down lower in the valleys. "Pasture deer". We saw 2 moose, lots of moose sign and relatively few deer tracks. Won't make it up this weekend but will shoot to shoot again next weekend.

Johnny, what's the plan? To throw the collection of knives at the deer if you run out of bullets!! We can probably take up a collection to buy you some more shells if that would help. ::handshake::

On a serious note, do you clean out a deer with a knife as small as the #72? That's pretty impressive.

Getting back on track and just so Johnny can say, "I told you so", the Ulster Camper has displaced my "one knife" Opinel yet again. I'm a regular serial knife monogamist, it would seem.

I will this Year Dave, I have used a #73 in the past which is actually a little bit smaller than the #72. The knife preforms very well, I think it just comes down to making the right cuts will whatever blade you have. I will be using this Rifle again, it's a working guys gun and it's as accurate as any Sako rifle.

That camp knife is a beaut, I can see why you can't leave it home.

I'm still not real happy with the steel...

But I tip up'd my CRKT M1603Z and it's clipped in my jeans pocket. I don't think I have a pic of this one online. Be back to post if I do.

I didn't get them in the same picture but if we are bragging on our hunting rifles here is my favorite, a 1963 vintage Winchester Model 88 in the .308 WIN cartridge. I cleaned the deer with my 1967 vintage Western F66 skinning knife. Shot and cleaned on 11-7-11. Ps I had my Case mini coke bottle trapper in my pocket at the time!
