Got a "PROBLEM" I just got this one that will substitute, at least for a while, my Darlin's daddy's "Grand Dads Old Timer". That old green side suffered a snapped off main blade and some other "farm related" abuse. I had looked for several years for one to scavenge a blade and re-blade the old guy to give to one of his grand kids.

Now this one is pristine, has been sharpened but is near mint. These are serialized and the shields have the birthday. it is the same as Daddy-in-Law's - - "1974"

I could BS the young man I had intended to give it to and tell him how I slaved and searched for the right parts to repair his Great Grand Dad's . . "Grand Dad's Old Timer"? Or should I actually dismantle this really nice knife and put the blade in Pappa's frame?

Well, he wouldn't know. But you would. You have control of the outcome. Only you can make the 'right' decision.

Edit: Food for thought. I'm unclear on who broke the blade. If Daddy-In-Law broke the blade, pass the knife on as is. If someone else broke it after it passed from the hands of D-I-L, you might want to consider repairing the knife. ::shrug::

the main blade is damaged from stripping wire...little nicks and flat spots...looks like it was tipped...some minor damage on the scale above the shield...looks like it dropped against a generator belt while the engine was running...

Got these one night last week impulse shopping on Ebay bought as a lot-seller had crap pictures so there were'nt any bids on em-had to do a little cleanup on the German Boker-looked like it took a little voltage at one time-the Remington knife is a secound just a little spec on the back handle is all i could find wrong with it but looks like a USA even--The Craftmen has a sheild on both sides the one on the back is oval I'm guessing for engraving a name or initals and a full size Camillus stockman--good score fer $23.99

It is built very well. None of the edges except the cutting edge are sharp.

Dave - I have one Sanrenmu and it is very well made, I will be buying more of them.

Here are a couple Wengers, a SwissChamp and a real neat Gerber. The operation of the Gerber is AWESOME...just
press the button and then the smallest flick of the wrist its open, super slick. I like the couple tools they added too.
Carried several Gerbers over the years (mostly USA) and I am never disappointed. :)
