Re: Hawbaker Special
I found this ad for a modern day Hawbaker Special from Red Hill Cutlery and Canal Street. Red Hill might still have some. It looks like it would make a good addition to a Hawbaker Special collection.

Here's the one that I have, Canal Street in Ram's Horn, exclusive to Red Hill Cutlery.

I like them and someday will have more but for right now, this Robeson ShurEdge is my only Hawbaker.

Ram's Horn is a really nice handle material. Glad I got the 2010 AAPK LE in Ram's Horn as well as stag.

Re: Hawbaker Special
Here is a modern Primble Hawbaker I picked up about 2007.
Nice knife, good F&F and nice walk & talk.
I EDCed it for about a week and quit carrying it when I couldn't get it to hold an edge.

Re: Hawbaker Special
Dale and Jerry, are your knives marked as "Hawbaker Specials"? If not I think that they are referred to as "Improved Muskrats". The use of the Hawbaker name on the knife is authorized by the family and the 2009 that I have was the first authorization in, I think, 10-years. See here: http://www.redhillcutlery.com/index.php?cPath=22_261 Same pattern and blade configuration but unless authorized as such it is an Improved Muskrat.

Re: Hawbaker Special
Then it's an "Improved Muskrat"
I'm still gonna call it a Hawbaker Muskrat and they can just sue me.
Edit: Okay, I've changed my mind. I've decided to call it a "Hawbaker Style Muskrat". That should satisfy all the legal crap.
This is a Schrade "Improved Muskrat" (says it on the blade if you get it in the right light).

Re: Hawbaker Special
I guess that my main point was that there are "Hawbaker Specials" and there are Hawbaker Patterns which are not Hawbaker Specials. Make sense??JEARL wrote:I am interested in starting a collection of the Hawbaker Specials. Wondering if anyone could share some pics. and some info. Doesn't matter what brand. Thanks Jeff

Re: Hawbaker Special
The "improved" tag that I hung on it may not be a totally accurate description, maybe "Hawbaker patttern" is better. But as far as I know, all Hawbaker Specials, with the exception of the very first one, are marked as such and were authorized by the Hawbaker family. I may be speaking completely out of my bounderies of expertise, but as I recall, that's what all the literature says. This is some pretty interesting reading. Scroll down to page 319 and there is a topic about the "Hawbaker Specials" which may make it more clear. http://books.google.com/books?id=LL_7wQ ... &q&f=false

Got nothing serious on the finger-tips. The HD-28 is a HOSS but it plays easy. I won't keep a guitar that hurts my fingers/hands or breaks strings. I play a pretty heavy rythem but haven't broken a string in 10-years. The last strings I broke were during the same song, nearly at the same time. Broke the G and the B. It was a brand new set of Elixer strings. Needless to say it was the first and last set of those strings I ever used. I currently use Martin SP-4200's, medium phosphorus bronze. [

Re: Hawbaker Special
This is a Case 1982 Improved Muskrat it was supposed to be a Hawbaker Special but some were rejected because of the quality of the bone. The front scales look good but the rear has a lot of white showing.

Yeppers, that's what the cited article says. That's a good one to have, should be pretty rare.
