GEC's Genuine Stag vs. Natural Stag

Hello folks,

What do you all think of the Genuine stag, vs. Natural Stag which GEC is producing now? I'm aware that the Natural Stag is not burned/torched or whatever one wants to call it, Actually Natural stag in the 23 pattern I purchased is absolutely beautiful IMO.

I've looked at some Genuine stag knives, and to me, some of them do not even look as nice as the natural Stag or some Burnt stag. All this said there is a huge premium for the genuine material. What can I be missing, if natural stag is too nice to be torched, how does it differ from Genuine stag

This is new to me (I'm mostly a Canal Street junky) and I'd like to see the difference in the two.

I thought the main difference in what the tubes said is that one kind of stag is imported.
I was assuming that was the reason it looks as nice but is less expensive. Hopefully someone
will be along with the details you are looking for.

The 23's that we picked up recently Look nicer than this one which is from the GEC site. Natural stag is Sambar from India and of Very high quality. But where is Genuine from?

BH - I personally think we got two of the nicest #23's too (Have not seen Monks yet though, LOL).
I am going to guess that Genuine Stag is good ole USA Stag, but I do not know for sure. I really like
the Natural Stag because it has a shield where the Gen does not. I hope GEC keeps offering all three
variations...................and MORE ELK PLEASE!!

I would have to agree the ones we have are pretty Nice. Much better than the one I see advertised as genuine? Natural stag, Sambar From India how much better does it get? With an almost $80.00 on the Genuine, I think we done well

Some fine lookin knives gentlemen.

The way I'm reading the label leads me to think all the stag is Sambar Stag from India but the better quality stag is not torched and is thus left "natural" while the lesser quality (appearance wise) stag is torched to give it that toasted look and bring out more contrast.

.............But I could be wrong. I've not quite reached my personal quota for the day.

I have a few of the GEC Stags,and I too,have some ""Burnt Stag & Natural Stag"" that is better looking to me,than ""some" of my Genuine Stags___but I also,have some Genuine Stags,that look better,than the others I bought a non-serialized,Burnt Stag, #23 Linerlock today, that I think has ,better looking stag,than any of the ""Genuine"" that I have seen,so far ????

I got this, explanation / definition of the different ""stags""___so seems maybe,that the cost (to GEC ) or the labor involved (to GEC)---may factor into the cost of the finished knives,not so much,the looks/beauty or the designated type/style, of the stag????

1.Genuine Stag---always from stag rolls (full cut horns) and "fully processed" at,the GEC factory***
2 Burnt Stag-----comes into the factory as ""slabs"" and is cut to fit__torched or burned to enhance the appearance***
3.Natural Stag---come in as pre-cut,slabs also,but looks, so good,they don't need to be torched or burned, to increase the looks,so they are set aside,as "'Natural Stag"" __the natural is also deemed to be ""Premium matched & Texture""****
4.Red Stag________is stag,that has been dyed,to give it a ""Reddish Color"" ___and some of it is """Awsome"", in my opinion !!!!!

TJ - GEC started offering 'Natural Stag' as a 3rd option very recently.

Burnt Stag is ""NOT"" second cut_______second cut stag, will loose it's naural texture,and will usually be ""jigged"",just as they do the bone scales ____GEC,only uses,the second cut stag,on "'Tidioute"" model knives>

I've been searching around for the info I originally found on the #12 toothpick I got from Bryan in the monthly drawing. I was almost postitive that I found a reference to "second cut" for the burnt stag. Could be my brain was asleep at the time. Oh well. Those are good definitions of the variables of stag offered. Thanks again.

TJ____these ""Tidioute"" model knives are some example of the secong cut stag__they are listed as "'Second Cut Jigged Burnt Stag""____maybe ,what you are referring too ???????
