Northwoods Dogleg Whittler

Does anyone have one of these? Are they as good in the hand as they look in the pictures? I'm a big fan of the Wharncliffe blades and getting more enthused with whittlers in general. The Northwoods knives look good but I've never handled one. Before I plop down a hunk of change like that, I'd like to know a little more about them.

Worth every penny I don't own the whittler, but the ones i have handled are very well made.

I have two Northwoods railsplitters. In my opinion their fit and finish is on par with Schatt & Morgan, which is to say, they are very nice factory knives.

The fit/finish on Northwoods knives are up there with the best factory made knives. As for a whittling knife - I my opinion, this knife has the wrong blade configuration for 'whittlin'. It needs to have a coping or a sheepsfoot blade to be an all-around whittlin knife. The wharncliff main blade is good for rough cutting but not for any type of detail work. If you just want to make shavings - then this is perfect.

Don't get me wrong here Big Barn, I asked for input and I appreciate yours but it'll never see a stick of wood. It will just be a safe queen and a looker.

What do they mean by "The handle is not part of the production"?

Just means they don't plan to use the material in the mock up photo (be it smooth bone or cream colored micarta) on the knives that make it to production.

I have, Barry. Saw the photo of the preliminary model over on the Collector Knives forum. (I didn't know the blades come from the foundry with those little tabs on the tips.) Hadn't seen this picture of the prototype though. Thanks for the link.
