It looks to have the same style pattern that was used on the earliest Schrade Cut Co. knives. I'm trying to find a set of scales for a very earl 3 3/4" full bolster Schrade Cut Co. double switchblade I have and have realy been watching for this style of pattern so your knife caught my eye. Nice one ! The one I have has a spear blade that has the "Full Swedge" master blade where the top swedge grind goes completely to the tang. The small blade on it is a "Punch" blade and this combination makes this knife extremely rare . Someone rescaled it many years back with incorrect scales. The Spear blade is full and has no pits and very little Patina so I hope to one day find some parts knife with scales that will work. The pictures I included are from two different 3 3/4" Schrade cut Co knives. Both appear to be the very early examples.I believe this style of picked bone may have been Schrade Cut Co's earliest pattern that they first used .Congratulations on your "Northfeild" !
I would like to see full pictures of your knife with the punch. I also have one, the master spear is narrow from years of use. I still like it and also think they are rare.

Thanks, Paul and Mike. I'm happy to have a Northfield packer.

dragon25, yes, this type of jigging or pickbone does look to be quite early , although I don't have a lot of experience to judge by. I wish you the best in trying to find a set of covers, or scales, for your knife.

Nice knife, gringo.
It looks very similar to mine in many ways. Your handle is really nice, it almost looks like burl.
Mine is American Knife Co. Plymouth, Ct.
I believe Northfield and Plymouth were connected at one time. I'll have to look that up.
Again, nice knife and thanks for posting it here.

Here's a link to a NORTHFIELD that I just picked up at auction. A bit pricey, but a nice example in my opinion. Soooooooo, tell me what you would have paid for it then I will tell you what I DID pay for it. Let's have some fun, be realistic, (if you were buying it, what would you pay?)

hint, disregard what the auctioneer figures it worth, they don't know knives.

Kind of depends on how many knowledgible knife collectors were following the auction.

It's a nice old knife. Better than "Good+", I think.

I'm going to assume not many knife people bidding and you got it for $70.00 +/-. No, wait. You said a bit pricey..........$275.00, covering all the bases.

If I collected knives from a company as old as Northfield, I'd have gone as high as $225.00 on it.

Post a few better quality pics when you have it in hand.

Congratulations on it, whatever the cost. ::tu::

David,

I pretty sure that one is pre 1878, I think its in as fine a condition that anyone can expect. If I had big bucks today I would have gone $500.00

I seem to recall seeing that one, Paul. IIRC it went for big bucks. I wish GEC would duplicate that pattern or something very similar.
