here is a remington umc patern 4053 . can anyone tell me a year on this one?

had it longer than that... was in with knives i got sometime in the 90's and it wasnt new then there isnt a R before the numbers

the main blade looks like the fourth left side but the other 2 blades have a stamp that looks like the top one on the back side of the blades

Ouch! That poor ol' knife's just got red flags stickin' up all over it, huh? I'm not real familiar with Remington's, but "R" designation or not, i've never seen the numbers spaced like that. Was that normal during some era? The couple that I have look to be from the '24-'33 era and the numbers don't have any space between them. Never thought about it 'till now, but I hope mine aren't fakes!! Hey kingfish, the news here may not always be what you wanna hear, but it comes from honest folks that just want to help ya learn. We've all had our share of "bummers", trick is, to learn from them that know and just get better at "reading the knife". It gets easier with time and knowledge. WB

heres two more remingtons these are r6193s or at least i hope they are..lol . onr has the circle remington umc and one has the circle remington umc made in usa on the sides. numbers are closer together than on the other knife but i thought the lack of a r on the other knife was strange because i thought the r is the designate for pocket knife with remington. but i have a few coca cola remingtons without numbers at all.

You are correct about the 'R' as being the folding knife designation but there were some fixed blade knives with the 'R'. Go figure! The advertising knives did not usually have pattern numbers on them.
Some Remington knives had the pattern number applied in ink as opposed to stamping. Very few of those pattern numbers survive as most wore off or whatever.

I've seen a ton of those Coca-Cola knives going across Ebay over the past couple of years. That's never a good sign of authenticity. Especially as a vintage era knife. There is so much of that sort of thing goin' on nowadays, that you really have to watch your P's & Q's. It's funny (in a sickening sort of way) how much those types sell for when they first show up. You can always tell when the word starts to spread through the collector community. That's what seems to come from American knife company's who have sold off their names and such to the highest bidders. You begin to get this influx of seemingly older knives being mass produced and for a time they'll catch the unsuspecting knife public off guard. I mean, let's face it, who amongst us wouldn't love to own an authentic 1920's Remington Lady's Leg pattern with Coca-Cola advertising on it? Those fakes like that are game changers for us all. Even if a real one were to show up, who's gonna give it a second look? I don't know about the rest of ya, but to me, knife collecting has takin' a couple of nasty turns over the past few years. Still alot of fun, but the playing field doesn't seem quite as level as used to be.
