The wrong knife/blade for the job

I just used this:

To cut back the insulation on 12/3 flat wire. None of the blades were ideal for that use.
Need a sheepfoot or wharnie or a coping blade in that situation!

I have a China Buck Trapper that I may experiment with. The Spey blade may just become a sheepfoot/wharnie.....

I'm of the opinion that a coping blade may be the most useful all around blade a knife can have. Also easy to sharpen.

Sheepfoot, Wharnie or coping. All will give you that "utility blade end" that we need so often. Don't know if you've ever done it before, so I'll just mention to grind at low speeds if possible, keep water handy to avoid over-heating and I always draw or trace my new blade shape out with a very fine tip permanant marker for reference before working. No doubt though, that knife needs a utility type blade in it. Pretty Case though!

Agreed, guys. I won't carry an EDC unless it has a sheepfoot, wharnie, or coping blade. I have never understood why they make some whittlers with both a pen and a spey blade. Seems kinda redundant to me. What can you do with a small spey blade that you can't do with a pen blade? or vice versa.

I have pondered doing what you are doing, Dave, and grinding my own coping blade. That little Case whittler would be about perfect with a coping blade. Let's see some pics when you are done.

Hi all
Just get a case stockman before 1978 and you will be set,
no need to grind down blades, or get a 64.. with punch blade
there is nothing more you need to do all your jobs! Me I
could not live with out a sheapsfoot but the spay blade is kept
sharp, and not used except what it is meant for.
A knife that dosen't work is not worth haveing!
Also It does not matter what pattern you select as long it 087
or larger!

The above posted is nice, but I feel that what you need is
something that has a clip blade, sheepsfoot, and or a punch
blade & spay blade. Trust all those who will chime in or go
with it what I have posted. You can not go wrong as long as
you keep it before 1978.! Trust you need a user so look for one,
there are lots on ebay, look for a used one, might take a little
work, but well worth it

Sounds to me he needs 1 knife to do it all. A 63 or a 64047 will fill the bill!
Why do you need more. I guess that you could discuss and cus this more,
but for me the '' 47 take up my pocket, and I love them, used every day!
