Waitin' on the 57

I can hardly wait to see the new 57 pattern whittler. I know its a wharnnie master w/ coping and clip, and it's gonna be 3 1/2 inches closed, but what will the frame look like???

Whatever it looks like, I'm sure it'll be a popular pattern, don't you think?

I think GEC has hit a home run with this pattern! I'm really happy to see it! Now if I can get my 73J w/ drop point and pen, my life will be complete!

From the picture of the Gepetto posted on the GEC site, it's a Norfolk whittler with a subdued mid-handle hump compared to the traditional Norfolk, and a Wharncliff main blade and coping and clip secondary blades. (The sample picture now on the GEC website shows the secondary blades with odd blunted tips, but that's got to be an error.) No dimensions are given, but a new production schedule indicates it's coming out under Northfield and Tidioute brands in the usual handle varieties. I think it's going to be a winner---a nice shape for the hand and a good (small?) working tool. I'm going to get my order in.

Sorry, what I wrote immediately above was nonsense. Mike Latham was right, of course---the Gepetto is a reversed #56 dogleg pattern. It reminded me of the Norfolk because they both have the main blade pivoting on the broad end, and the two secondary blades at the narrow end. The blunted ends of the secondary blades are probably there because this is a "setup" knife as it is before final finishing. Still, a great looking knife.

An up-dated photo,of the #57 Geppetto whittler,from the GEC web. site_____and a photo of,a Case Seahorse whittler,I have in my collection___almost the same knife,______the Case knife is 4 inches closed,while the ""new release" #57,will be 3 1/2 inches closed_______

It reminded me of a Seahorse when I first saw it also - I think GEC's size will be fine. There is a little
extra length on the Case for the blades it has. GEC did a nice job of tightening it up a bit maybe. I don't
seem to buy too many knives with more than 2 blades, so it will be nice to hear what you guys think of it.
That small clip blade that GEC uses is a good one, would like to see it more, in place of pens here and there.

This pattern looks to be very well executed by GEC. This is a great little every day carry with three very useful blades. I think they have a real winner in the 57. I'll be adding a stag version to my Northfields, for sure!
