Swapped to Grandpaw's old Yeller Schrade later in the day.

Gino, that is one sweet 65-69 USA Case Jack................... However, and I really don't give a hang what the "EXPERTS" say....... That ain't Brown bone, and you can take that to the bank! Even if it wasn't made before 1965.
That is Red bone or at the very least "Pretty bone" what ever they consider that.
Nice knife!

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
I'm thinking I'm going to have to get one of those Texas Jacks. Almost certainly be Chestnut bone, because that is what the CV comes with these days....
BTW Grandpaw's Yeller Schrade went with me in left pocket while Prov. R.I. "Scout" was in right when I went to work today.

Yeah I have always wondered what the "correct" name for the bone is but all I know is I really dig it! I should have kept this one in my pocket a long time ago.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
Today my Case Medium Stockman took the place of Grandpaws Schrade in left front.
The Prov. R.I. "Scout" stays in right front. It is too useful for taking out lights that don't work on the trucks.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
Pretty sure I'll stay with something 3.5 to 3.75 for the left pocket.
.5 of an inch is a BIG difference in size! Those Schrades are a bit large.
May go Remington Jack, Camillus EO etc. But probably stay with Medium Stockman Amber Bone CV.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
After getting the lock ring issue resolved, I carried the Opinel #8 for day or so.
But, yesterday the Schrade 5OT made it back in my pocket and I'm carrying it again today.
While I like the light weight of the Opinel and prefer the feel and look of the wood handle, for daily utility use, I'm finding I prefer the 5OT on most days. Despite weighing a bit more, I find I prefer the shorter and much thinner profile in the pocket. I'm also finding that most of home and office uses don't require the thin, slice & dice blade of the Opinel. I prefer the stouter, fully locked blade of the 5OT for things like cardboard boxes, zip ties, cutting open bags of fertilizer, rope and such.
The Opinel is the perfect food prep knife and now that I can trust the lock ring more, I feel better about pushing that knife harder. But it's migrating towards being my backpacking, hiking, bike touring, ski touring knife of choice. On those sorts of outings, I want the knife first and foremost for kitchen duty and then for EDC utility (no slur on the woodcraft crowd, but really, in over 25 of regular backcountry travel in all 4 seasons, I've never once needed to build a shelter but have had to cut countless amounts of moleskin and webbing). The Opinel is fine for this.
I think the Opinel is going to find its semi-permanent home in my "10 essentials" pouch that I carry in all of my packs. That will get the EDC choices down to 2 on a daily basis: the 5OT (mostly) and the Ulster Camper (occasionally).
[Like I'm going to actually stick to this.....]

Have a Red Bone just like it.

Ok Guys, I know both of EDCs are made in china. So, please don't kick me out of the club. The Winchester is my horse and gets Dirty a lot. The Ford is made by United Cutlery Brands and is my carry for when I am just out and about.
Find a NEED today and then meet it!!!

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
That Congress (Ford) looks ok.
I had a Winchester China Stockman that would get wicked sharp on the smaller blades and wouldn't get sharp enough to cut skin on the main. Three very good people tried to sharpen it. I think the heat treat was bad.
Been carrying this in right front:

Pretty knife, but it sounds like a QC problem in the heat treating dept.

That problematic Winchester is long gone.
