Thanks - yes, most are ebony, with some cocobolo and a little rosewood thrown in. Not sure what the big Schatt & Morgan "Jess Crouch" handles are....maybe oak?

Hi mate, this was my first attempt at making a sheath, and yes its a fire steel on the side, it all turned out ok i want to make a similar set up for another fire steel ans opinel #8 my mate made the fire steel

better pic of the steel, ive since this pic grinded the back of the blade to use with the steel .

Nice JohnnieR. I think a goodly portion of that second group are my favorites. That Red Devil TL-29 is certainly different from the usual. I was surprised to see that Case Loom Fixer has wood handles.

Thanks Jerry. ...the Red Devil is one of my favorites also....very cool locking mechanism. ..to unlock the screwdriver (when in the open position) you need to press the master blade inward to release the lock.
The loom fixer has laminated wood scales.....was made in the mid 70's.

Well J.R. I'm no eggspurt but I'll haphazard a guess that a whole set of
curlifried maple kanifes in a custom blanket beat a single Pnut every time.
Even with that many in the set though it's hard to believe took a 100 years to make it.

Might try calling GEC, see if they'll send you the beaver
shield by itself.

I can appreciate the components of that knife as individuals. The wood is beautiful. Who couldn't like that grain going in all kinds of crazy directions? The knife is a good looking knife but the two together are not my cup of tea.

Don't get me wrong Wosey, I love wood. (shut up Phil) The colors and grain on some wood is so beautiful it just almost makes ya cry. I love working in wood. I seldom stain my projects. Most of the time I use a clear finish and sometimes I just wax a piece so the grain of the wood is the star of the show.

Even though I own a handful of wood handled knives, for some reason I have a prejudice against wood as knife handles. The wood itself is beautiful but for me, it cheapens a knife. I know it's totally irrational and yet there it is, stuck in my mind. I guess the only way to explain it is some guys like skinny women and some like big women.

Sweet shields, Catts and I never seen buckeye burl before. I gather from their website Bark River uses many nice exotic handle materials.
