Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
I've been carrying that little Buck 055 ever since my buddy gave it to me over a year and a half ago. For all that time, it's been a faithful companion and never intrusive in my pocket. Yesterday, I set it aside and took the main blade of my new (to me) 1947-1950 Camillus #33 to my old Bear stone. That Camillus steel sharpened right up and I slipped that little EZ Open jack into my pocket in place of the Buck. I've been fondling the durned thing since I got it so thought, "why not?".

Hey Jerry
Hard to beat those easy openers....most knives that I carry for any length of time is an easy opener, I suppose since they are a bit easier for my old fingers to get open. Nice Cam! Thanks for showin!

John, it's just a 501 lockback.
I've looked at the autos and I really like them, I just can't see the use in owning one though.
Well, maybe someday.
Thanks J.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
GDogg, the 501 is 3 3/4 closed, while the 112 is 4 1/4 closed. Not a huge difference in length, but the 501 is very slim. The 112 weighs in at 5.6 oz, while the 501 weighs in at 3.0 oz. So there is a good weight difference.
I'll see if I can't get ya a comparison pic tomorrow.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
Johny, if you like your Buck 501 half as much as I like my new (to me) Schrade 5OT (which shares the same basic dimensions and profile) you're going to love it. I find that the thin profile pockets easily. the solid lock is confidence inspiring and the size and classic looks
make it very office friendly. It has instantly replaced my Ulster camper and my Opinel #8 as my most often carried knife, by far.
Garddog, interesting that you should ask about the 112, as I've been looking closely at the 112 Ecolite and spent some time at he local EMS store comparing my 5OT against the 112 Ecolite. In short, the 5OT (and I presume 501 since they are so similar) is an overachieving pocket knife due to the lock back, while the 112 is a small hunting knife, that is small enough to be pocketable.
The 5OT has a noticeably thinner blade and a more generic drop point profile. The size difference feels much more dramatic than 1/4" or so of length suggests. But the big difference is the handle. The 112 fills my large hand while the 5OT only fills my first 3 fingers. I was doing some heavy cutting this weekend and while the rugged 5OT did the job, I wished for more knife in my hand.
I'm planning on getting the Ecolite 112 and plan on it being my non-office knife. But the 5OT will probably stay my in my pocket at work most of the time. It's just so much less threatening looking.
Hope this helps

very nice caleb, i like the idea of a smalller buck lock folder, i wish buck would make a 112 with no lock ,a UK112
although im not sure the 112's blade is under 3inches,
i bet that will get some pocket time caleb

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
A new EDC for me.
I found it hiding in a box of knives with Rogers Bone handles.
I forgot I had it.
There is no tang stamp but the blade is faintly etched LIBERTY TRUCKS & PARTS.
I think is one someone put together (before I ever got it).

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
Dale, that right there is just about my ideal for a slip joint.
I could also go for the same thing in an equal end profile.
I just the feel of the spear point blade when I'm doing things. Much more so than the clip style common on so many slip joints. Too many years of carrying a BSA knife, I suppose.
The thing I really like about you knife is its stripped down bare essential feel. Just the blade. Single blade knives are definitely my favorite.

The spec is right at 3", but it might depend on who's measuring it.zed6309 wrote:very nice caleb, i like the idea of a smalller buck lock folder, i wish buck would make a 112 with no lock ,a UK112although im not sure the 112's blade is under 3inches,

Regarding the lock, could a 112 be modified in such a way that the lock mechanism works as a slip joint?
Speaking of the Bucks (and sorry to rub this in Zed) I'm carrying my Buck 110 in my pocket this week as an experiment to see if I could get used to the lighter, smaller Ecolite 112. All I can say is that the 110 is no Opinel!! It is there. Yet interestingly, I can go really long time forgetting that I have it on me, which I find surprising. But... I'm not sure people around me can or will remain so sanguine about it's presence. It's a big knife with a big scary looking blade, at least in an office environment. I do feel very conscious about pulling it out of my pocket.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
Hmmmm, sounds like a good test Pinnah, but please watch your back.
I have an older 110, I forget the year, but it's much slimmer than the ones they make today. I do EDC it in a sheath, and I really like the easy access in a sheath. Now that I have this 501 I won't need the 110 in my pocket, but it will still ride the hip. I have a feeling this 501 could tackle a lot, maybe even to the degree of bumping the 110 out of the rotation, but I won't let that happen, I have to much love invested in the 110.
I have no problem throwing this old 110 in my pants pocket.

Dale, I really like that one, looks like some really pretty scales.
