Lock Backs - Still haven't found what I'm looking for

Seeking suggestions for Goldilock's lock back.

Specifically, I'm looking for a lock back knife with a carbon blade in the 3" to 3 1/4" range.

I have a Buck 110 and it's a great knife for what it is (blade is about 3 3/4". And I know I could replace it with a carbon LB7 if I wanted. But, these knives are too much for me for general utility use.

I have a (new to me) carbon blade Schrade 5OT (blade is about 2 3/4") and it's immediately displaced my Opinel #8 as my favorite pocket knife. This is especially true when dealing with hard plastic consumer packaging. I just don't trust the lock ring on my Opinel like I trust a real lock back.

The length and overall size of the Opinel #8 is just about right but I'm looking for something I can treat a bit more roughly. I'm looking for something with the stout feeling of the Bucks and the Schrades.

Begrudgingly, I will consider more modern designs, so long as I can keep a carbon (or CV) blade.

I've found the Case Trapper lock, but I can't find the blade length documented anywhere. Would prefer something with a bit thicker handle, more in line with the 110 or 6OT style though.

Thoughts? Or am I barking up a tree with nuthin' in it?

Thanks. But the 6OT is the same basic size as they Buck 110 and Schrade LB7, no? And, correct me if I'm wrong, the 6OTs were all made with "Schrade +" stainless, no? I'm definitely looking for carbon or CV

Try a Mercator K55. It's a single blade lockback, all metal construction, flat and lays in the pocket very well. and it's been made for like 75 years that I know of. Has a heck of a track record for a good edc knife.

How bout a Boker Fellow ?

Has about the size blade you want, lockback, bone handle and carbon steel blade. It's considerably more slender than the Buck 110, LB7, or 6 OT.

There are several bone handle options.

Have you looked at the Case Copper Lock? or the large Sod Buster?

The Boker Fellow looks to be perfect. I wish it was US made, but Boker's history is so mixed up with the US, that it's almost US in a way. The dimensions are just what I'm looking for though as is the blade type.

As for the Case knifes, a lockback CV sod buster would be ideal, but I've never seen a sod buster that locked?

The mini-Copperlock is available in CV, but is the same size as my 5OT and truth be told, I prefer the drop point blade to the clip blade. The larger Copperlock is real, really nice but finding a used one with a CV blade appears to be non-trivial!!

Dave, how about a Canal Street pinch? Knife is 3 3/4" with a 3 1/8" (from end of bolster) D2 blade. Basically the size of a single blade trapper. This ones a proto (hence the lack of a nail nic):

Dave....Case did make a liner lock sodbuster. If that's something your interested in, you may have to keep an eye on Ebay sells for awhile.

Pinnah; befoa you pahk the cah and find yourself drinkin' at the bah, consider GEC's 72 lockback (mostly stainless but they made a few in carbon) or , my personal favorite, the 73 liner lock. This is a great little locking single blade pattern!

I've had a couple lock backs break at the lock bar on me, but the liner lock is still battin' 1000! If you haven't tried one, you owe it to yourself to do so, but beware, the GEC habit can happen to you too!

Sure have been a boatload of good suggestions so far.
If I had this much trouble picking out a locker I'd given
up and moved to a drop point fixed blade by now.
Or pulled out an Opinel carbone' with veribloc ring.


Think picking out a knife is tough just wait until
next time you hafta go car shopping!

Wow. I've found the 72 in an ebony handle and my much preferred spear point blade. Holy hide the credit card statements, Batman!

That right there would be the winner for me. Now I just need to save my pennies.

Another thought, if you're interested. If you go to the 'Collectors of Camillus' website and look on page 19 of the 2006 Dealers' Catalog', there's a model 61 Gentleman's Lockback in carbon steel that's 3-1/8 in. long. I've seen these on 'the bay' for reasonable $$$.

Did you see the Boker BO2004STC with a C75 carbon steel 3" blade?

Both beautiful knives. While it looks a bit smaller than the 3" blade mark, that Camillus Gents look just great. Definitely adding to my watch list on the bay! Like the look of the butt end on the Boker too, but for this knife, I'm steering away from clip blades (I have the 110 for that). That's one reason why that GEC 72 with the spear point is at the top of my list. Wow.
