Cattaraugus Scout Compasses...how did Tint Chapman use them?

Here is a picture of a few of the scout knives I found lying around in my drawer.

Also, I'm posting a picture of the text from Tint Chapman, inventor, one of the owners of Cattaraugus Cutlery, from the patent he applied for (circa 1914) with the Catt compass knives...and specifically how to use them -- VERY clever.

The little scout jr that I show actually has a compass that rotates freely, and is magnetized and and points pretty much correctly. Go figure.

Love to hear from anyone that knows more about these little gems...years in production, what box did they come in, original prices, any trivia appreciated.

PS My scout jr. master knife blade has almost no snap left...anyone know how to fix?
