An Ole Beauty

Post by HiPower »

Image
the folding guard is marked patented 1923 & the other side of tang says --union cutlery--. we know the knife was made after 1923 but i'm not sure of the age. this Ka-Bar is'nt mint but the cleaning accents the appearance for this old soldier. usually i do'nt advocate the cleaning of old knives but in this case i think it's nice to show newbies how knives could be made in the past. as long as a cleaned knife is not tried to be sold as mint no fraud is present.--HiPower

A clean knife is one that works properly. From the looks of that old beauty, it couldn't have been in very bad condition before the "cleaning". There are different levels of cleaning IMHO. The one in my pocket gets some level of cleaning every time it gets sharpened. That old Dog's Head just doesn't look to have ever been in bad enough of condition to have needed more than maintenance cleaning. Slip a picture of that one on the Kabar sub-forum, cause it's a treat to look at it.

Nice one! Here's one I picked up several months ago in bone.Nice full blade but with some pitting and beautiful scales with no cracks.Paid a bit more than I wanted to but the last one I saw like this wasn't for sale and it was 20 plus years ago.
I elected to leave it as is save for some careful cleaning with a Q-tip and some mineral oil. Most of the time I polish mine but this one I decided to leave alone.
