Bulldog Cattle King

Post by Hukk »

Anyone know what generation this knife was made? Anyone know why it is this generation?

I'll run this poll for 7 days, though some of you may know the answer as soon as you see it. Go ahead and vote/discuss. ::tu:: ::tu::

Why Hukk,

It MUST be Pre-First Generation...because it says Vintage WWll right at the top of the pictures. ::nod:: :roll:

What??...They weren't making Bulldog knives in Germany during WWll??
Who knew...sigh. ::shrug:: ::doh::

Just pokin' some fun/disgust with the seller here...sorry.

Bill
P. S.
If I'm going to pop off, I should at least guess something. The fall line on the grind of the main blade doesn't look like the only picture I could find. So, I'll try cobbled "Parts Knife" maybe?

The stamp looks good and the shield has no writing but the jig pattern looks the same as my 3rd G...That puzzles me....I am going to have to go with 3rd G because the jig pattern is a little different on the 1st G knives I have seen.

Well, I can give a couple hints and say that there are 3 things that will tell you what generation this knife is. Look at the date, bowtie shield, and the style of the jigging.

Yes, they did and they merely changed colors. There weren't very many, the Red Sparkle became Horn Swirl (BKC 361 and BKC 361-A). The BKC 362 Tortise became BKC 362-A light Tortoise. They made this change, or similar ones to all of the first and second generation knives. There are 3 other Red Sparkles out the, but we are very unlikely to see them, they are all 1 of 1.
Some models went from Red Sparkle to Red/Black celluloid and so on. So, all models changed. The color of green bone for first generation went to brown bone in the second generation according to Parker's vol 7.

OK, Here is my take. The knife has the jigging of either a 2nd or 3rd generation knife, the 1st gen. jigging is smoother. :wink: If it was a 3rd gen knife it would have on the tang either 1993 or surg inst. if it was stainless steel. Also if it was a 3rd gen knife the bowtie would have BULLDOG inscribed on the shield. the jigging style in conjunction with the 1985 English steel tang stamp and the absence of the BULLDOG inscription on the shield identify it as a 2nd generation knife. ::tu:: I might mention that even though the books call for 36 made in most instances they pop up more often that that number might indicate. ::disgust::

Yes, I agree, this is a second generation knife and we see them much more often than we should if only 36 were made, in my opinion.
