ulster boyscout knife

i have a boyscout knife that was my grandfathers. It was to be passed down to the first grandson who became an eagle scout. It was passed to me just before he was killed in a car accident about 5 years ago. I would like any information on the knife that i can get. I have looked online and have found similar knives online but the handle of the one i have is smooth where the others are not. I can not find one exactly like the one i have. Any help would be nice.

The knife you have shown is an official Boy Scout knife made by Ulster U.S.A.
I don't have my scout knife book available at the moment to give you a production date range. The smooth plastic handles are seen far less frequently than the ones with the jigged white delrin handles, and thus fetch a bit more on ebay sales. The last one I watched sell on ebay went for around $60 in very lightly used conditon.
That knife is a great family heirloom.

I agree with Phil....very nice BSA knife. ...those are a bit more rare than the 4 blade pattern and usually bring good money.
I have a similar one ...but it is made by Camillus.

Who would most likely have been the maker, Camillus or Ulster, in 61-62? Mine was a four blade ( it did not have the Phillips driver) and had brown jigged delrin scales. It had the same shield as these pictured here. I no longer have this knife but my father gave it to me when I was eight.

Ulster USA made a four blade official Boy Scout knife like the one you describe beginning in 1962 and running through 1979. Camillus didn't make one with the round tenderfoot shield until the mid 80s according to my information.

By the way Demondog, now that I'm back from vacation and can look it up, that knife of yours with the smooth white plastic handles was produced by Ulster USA from 1984-1985.

Thanks, I had that knife until the mid to late 70's but have no idea where it is now.
