Case / Tony Bose Collaboration Knives

I had the opportunity recently to purchase a few knives that have caught my eye for some time but never had the chance or funds to get. Since Schatt & Morgan has not put anything out here lately that has gotten my attention my eyes have been wandering...Yes I must confess I have been looking at other ladies all dressed up and pretty...

So with that being said I have always admired the Case/Bose collaboration knives and this is the first one to make it to my mailbox.

A Bose Antique Jigged Bone handle Cotton Sampler

To me the Case / Tony Bose collaboration knives represent the pinacle of what Case can manufacture. All the knives in the series have beautiful ATS-34 steel blades and bolsters and the handle materials and shields are top notch. Even the padded suede zippered pouch each knife comes in represents the best.

Thats a beautiful cotton sampler sunburst. I have been wanting one of those. It seems that my money only goes so far though.

That's a beauty Sunburst. Is there a dull part to the blade between the tang and what looks to be the cutting edge? Thanks s-k

Yes there is a dull part or what I would describe as the shank or stem of the blade..Thanks..

Wonderful knife Sunburst, they are spectacular. I'm still saving up for a sambar handled one. I don't care for thier latest colaberation however. I'm just not a fan of swing guards.

I don't really know SK but here is A.G. Russell's explaination of the knife. I have also included a vintage Keen Kutter cotton sampler for a visual look. I tried to bid on this Keen Kutter but it went higher than I expected. I guess the proper name of the shank is a choil.

The Cotton Sampler is a classic pattern made many years ago for the men who bought cotton by the bale (or ton) and wanted to see the quality of the fiber before the bidding began. A Folding Hunter handle holds a 3-1/4" super spey blade with long choil. Together these make the Cotton Sampler.

I shopped and saved for sometime just to get the chance at a couple of the collaborations and I should get a few more in the mail at the end of this week. I was real picky on the next cotton sampler I have coming, It is stag and it looks knarly and I can't wait to see it..I'm all into the knarlier the better..

I'd assume the shank would be for "choking" up on the blade for more control, perhaps you need to choke up on the blade for the proper method of testing the cotton?

I sure like them and the great quality..

Johnnie the lockback whittler feels great in the hand, great snap, weight and balance. I am amazed at how clean it looks from the bottom end. I have heard that Tony Bose commented that this was one of the most difficult knives he has made because of the lockback and working it to the small size of a whittler..

I have included (borrowed from another place

) a few more pics looking at the bottom of the whittler..One thing that is similar on all these Case/Bose knives is they are razor sharp and I mean XXX Razor sharp..Most knives I buy these days are so dull you could ice skate on the edge..

I agree totally with you, these knives are some of the best production slipjoints I have had the privledge of holding..And the antique bone like you have is by far in my opinion the best of that bunch..
