two queens ?

queen has made some very exceptional knives for a great many knife companies. shame is that queen put these companies back on the map without even batting an eye of recognition to queen. every man has to have a few queens in their home...

Brings up a good question; does Blue Grass make their own knives or are they contracted out to companys such as Queen? I'm thinking they contract them out as Camillus made a lot of the Winchesters in the past, did they not?
Frame-wise, these knives look identical except for the fancy bolsters on the Winchester.

I've heard much speculation but have never seen any hard evidence that Blue Grass does the actual physical manufacturing of any of their product. If anyone has been to a current brick & mortar establishment that has a Blue Grass sign on it and that individual saw knife assembly taking place there, that would make a believer of me. Until that time, I remain a skeptic.

I agree with you, HiPower. Both frames look alike. To me, they both have the look and the fit & finish of a Queen contract knife. If I'm wrong, that will be the 28th time this year. (I try to limit myself to four per month.)

i have been to the queen open house this past weekend and i put the question to them about the winchester line since bluegrass acquired the license. queen was contracted to make all the 1980 line and into the mid 1990,s. camillus then made them till they closed, it seems that bluegrass is making their own knives now.

but than again chetr upstairs where they pin the shields on at queen there were 3 goergeous stag knives all with different winchester long guns on them that they wouldnt give me an answer on what the were 4

You can't make production knives without a production facility, and if Bluegrass has one I'd sure like to know where it's located.

Queen Knife Company has made knives for many knife companies as well as many hardware stores including the Case Classics (for BlueGrass Cutlery & Parker Knives) and the Winchester reproductions. This tradition is known as "Contract cutlery," and goes all the way back to the Schatt & Morgan days.

chaut, thet dont advertise their contracting. they might even be sworn to not speaking about it. people pick it up from the knife world, but not from queen themselves or the press...
maybe the winchesters are still manufactured at queen

thanks fellows for all that info. in this part of texas we hardly ever saw any queens sold in sporting & hardware stores anywhere. queens were just not around & it was only after i joined some knife forums that i started to look at queens . when they desire they can put out as nice a folder as anyone in the u.s. must have been 2009 when i 1st became aware of them.after looking at various pics posted by members i realized that these could be great knives. paladin showed me my 1st gecs in a collection he had bought & i started going crazy again about 2009. he had liquidated my huge collection i started in the 70s since i had gotten past 60 & wondered what i was going to do with all those knives & some swords. the only reason i passed on queen was i did'nt want to dilute my efforts aT GETTING GECS. I TOLD THIS LONG STORY SO YOU GUYS COULD UNDERSTAND WHY I MOSTLY ONLY HAVE GECS.---HiPower

hipower, you would be very hard pressed to find a better knife company to stick with. just barely 5 years old and GEC is world renowned for their superior cutlery. but queen has always been there too.. and both companies hail from titusville, pa, with case cutlery just up the road some......

btw, i believe today is GEC's 5th birthday

Hey Dennis__I'm in the same boat ______I had been collecting, only Case knives ,till a couple years ago,then bought my first GEC ******now all my effort,time & $$$$$$$$$$ go toward, the GEC's _____seems like a pretty nice road to follow,for the moment ______the #73 & #72 patterns are my favorites, of them all

top the scout patterns in single blade are probably the best edc in gec line. i'm a sucker for most of the larger patterns. the barlows are quality but too small for arthritic hands like mine.--HiPower

I remember Queen knives from the 50's. We traded knives on the school ground,( really!) and Queens were not much sought after. This was early stainless blades and everyone said they couldn't get them sharp and wouldn't hold an edge. Today most knives are stainless and we understand better how to sharpen them. I own several different Queen made knives: Schatt & Morgan, Robeson,Fightin' Bull (Wendell Carson), reproduction Winchester, Canal Street, 1GEC, as well as Queen. I think my favorite might be the reproduction Winchesters simply for the variety of old patterns. Great carbon steel in those also.
