A.ULMER Straight Razor

Post by garddogg56 »

I inherited my Grandfathers jewlers tools and in the draws I found several straight razors and some unbelievable jewlers tools made in USA and Solenger Germany but one razor is of great interest to me it's a A ULMER made in Portland Maine it was in a box that said Geneva Cutlery Corp Geneva N.Y.USA.-PYRAMID BRAND.I am going to research A.ULMER in the Portland area but has anyone ever heard of this brand? My Dad tells me my granddad worked as a welder during world war two at the South Portland ship yard they built Liberty ships and he also sharpened razors and knives on the side while also repairing Union Stations clock, tower clocks and watches he was quite a man..thank for any info.

In response to the question about A. Ulmer, my great-grandfather Adolf was a cutlerer in Portland, Maine and he came from Germany, near Stuttgart. I have a knife and a pair of scissors he made and somewhere a book about old Portland that has a little write up about him. He was married to someone named Lina/Lena and they had at least 5 children. Not sure where his shop was in Portland but it must be the same A. Ulmer. Hope this helps your search.

Great stuff! I just started to research about this since I just moved here.
I was wondering where it was, what type of building and if it remains today.?
