I'm a big fan of both steel guitar and Outlaw Country. Check out the steel guitar in Waylon Jennings' Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down

Its too bad Chris Stapleton (singer) left the Steeldrivers. This was recorded before he left.

Re: Some Of My Favorite Country & Bluegrass Songs
If that song had been done by Bill Monroe, it would be pure-d Bluegrass. This guy gives it a Blues twist. Nice change of pace. Good song. I like it.
Hey T.J. Does "My Favorite Bluegrass Band" already know this song?

Re: Some Of My Favorite Country & Bluegrass Songs
I know y'all are going to laugh at me and make fun of me but I don't recall ever hearing any of Jerry Jeff Walker's stuff before. I've heard David Allen Coe mention him in a song or maybe it was Kris Kristofferson but whatever, never heard Jerry Jeff sing.
I sure like that pickup truck song though.

Re: Some Of My Favorite Country & Bluegrass Songs
Hey Jerry, no, we don't know or do that song, but I really like it and like the Steel Drivers as well. The lead singer, Chris Stapleton, is definately influenced by Dave Evans, a banjo player/singer extrordineir. Hear this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Js7QCxpY ... re=related
But Bill Monroe also had a hand it the more progressive style of Bluegrass. Here is vid of John Cowan with the Newgrass Revival doing a song that Mr. Monroe wrote: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11iXj_Mo_GA Could not find a Monroe version of this song but I do have it on an album

Jerry Jeff Walker also wrote the song "Mr. Bojangles" that was a big hit for the Nitty-Gritty Dirt Band in the 80's

Re: Some Of My Favorite Country & Bluegrass Songs
I prefer studio recordings but this live recording will serve as a sample of what the group sounds like.
The Hangman - Ernie Thacker & Route 23
Thanks for suggesting it Ethan. Welcome to AAPK and feel free to post URLs for the music of other songs/groups you enjoy.

Re: Some Of My Favorite Country & Bluegrass Songs
Johnny Wright, one-half of the country singing duo of Johnny and Jack and husband of Kitty Wells has passed. A great loss for traditional Country music.

If you forget it, everyone else will forget it and then maybe we can all forget the Siberian throat singers. I have to admit, the stringed instrument had a little Bluegrass soul in it.tjmurphy wrote: don't they Jerry, er Dale, er Jerry??
