I went there with my family when I was a kid, and my dad bought me one of those. All I can say is they sure must have been on sale that day!

Re: Camco's $8,000?
Here's how that listing got started.
Wife says, "Dear, it's getting cluttered around here. Ya need to sale some stuff."
Hisband says, "OK hun, I'll list some stuff."
Now yanno he prolly don't want to get rid of things he's aquired over the years. So he puts an outrageous price on it.
Couple of days goes by, husband tells the wife, "Hun, no-one wants to give me anything for my stuff. I may as well keep it, instead of giving it away."
I fergit where I've heard that line though.

Maybe he just hit the zero key one time too many and the actual asking price is only $800.00.
Although, I can see the wife scenario happening too.

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I first saw that listing. Maybe a little of both?

well fellows it does'nt hurt to ask. afterall i saw a guy pick up an old good remington bullet in the 70s for 12.00. now if it was a display of case tested or robeson the price might seem more reasonable.---HiPower

Re: Camco's $8,000?
stes like this normally go for about 100$- even this clean.... the ones that go for more are
the COLONIAL CUB HUNTERSi have seen them bring 150$ for a full board.they have sheaths and can go on a 8yr olds belt.their neat.
full board of campmasters i have seen break 115$.
i have seen full boards of the BARLOW knives with the shell handle
and barlow imprint.didnt catch price.
these card knives come up alot more then ya think...just gotta look for them. most were made by colonial or Imperial. lots are just marked with colonials USA...why some have full stampings.
hope all have been well.

Wasn't there a discussion on this forum,in the not to distant past, that talked about perceived value versus real value?

Re: Camco's $8,000?
I contacted the seller assuming that there was a " TYPO or MISPRINT " on the total amount for these knives ..........
He did reply back :
"My price is buy it now, or make an offer - it is not a mistake. Like I said, I have seen these knives sell (recently) in fair/used condition for over $100.00 each with absolutely no etching of any kind. These have never been removed from the board (except for the pictures), they are etched with a museum that has been closed for 37 years, they are all mint, have the board that was never used and the original box.
I think anyone would be hard pressed to find another example like this. I am confident that this is the only example in existence on the planet.
Make an offer, all I can say is yes, or no."

Re: Camco's $8,000?
For some reason, when I got back into knife collecting in 1988, I was at one time intrigued by this particular Camco knife. Maybe it was the little siren in the handle. I always loved that sound. ZZZZZZZZZZZRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
For that reason, I tend to look at every one of these that show up on Ebay. Anecdotally, I'd say the vast majority of them have been from this same museum and that included some intact boards, so I doubt this is "the only example in existence on the planet."
Even if it was the only one, eight grand for a bunch of plastic knives that he himself stated sale for $100.00 each? Maybe I miscounted. Were there actually eighty knives on that board?
