Unmark fixed blade ???

Post by bert29 »

This knife looks to be pretty old but there are no markings on either the knife or the sheath. The blade is about 7 1/2". Does this look familar to anyone. Any brand possibilities?

Looks like a Utica Kutmaster, made after WW2 from bayonet blades and sold commercially...but better pictures would help alot.

Is that a ring through the tang at the pommel? If so, than it is most likely a Kutmaster...they were usually etched Kutmaster over MADE IN U.S.A. on the shoulder of the blade, between the back of the false edge and the guard. Look closely and maybe you'll be able to make some of it out.

I suppose it could be my eyes, but I don't see too much difference

I've got one of those and had an idea that was what you were visualizing. Gotta give Utica credit, they didn't waste their leftovers!

I've had the same knife with various markings and unmarked as well. Most of the ones I've had were made in Japan and the most popular marking was Kiffe.

That looks like one of those WWII trench knives, the sheath looks the same too. Ontario and Boker both make repros.

To me, everything about that knife looks just like the Kutmaster... edge grind, guard, leather washer shaping, spacer next to pommel, and the tang ring holding the pommel on. I've seen similar knives such as those mentioned, but close ain't close enough for me.
