Got this one in a United Way fundraiser auction at work. The donor's father is a custom knife maker, G. L. Drew out of Mill Spring, North Carolina.
He said it was made to be used, but for now it's in the safe!

Then the knife should be used.Okie Ken wrote:Got this one in a United Way fundraiser auction at work. The donor's father is a custom knife maker, G. L. Drew out of Mill Spring, North Carolina.

What good is it sitting in a safe?
The knife looks to be made tough to be played with ruff...
No fancy carvings or jewels attached to it. A plain but well built tool.
I think it would be an insult to that blade smith who made it if it just sat around collecting dust.
I'd test it out for Mr. Drew and give him my honest opinion of his work.

Good point, JW, but I've got a good Old Timer that has served me well for many years on a bunch of bucks, birds, and hogs.
Just started collecting knives recently. Got my first grandson last year, so I think I'll keep this one safe for him until he needs to use it on his first whitetail.

Ken, that's a beautiful knife! I wouldn't blame you for puttin' it up and usin' the old knife. On the other hand.... you might jes' like carryin' it.

Very nice knife! It looks like it would be a pleasure to use, but I probably wouldn't use it, either. I just don't get out enough to use the knives that should be getting worn in a little as it is.
