Case knife

I have a large "case" knife. Blade is 4",and total length is 9"1/2. Black rough handle with the markings of Case "testxx" on the blade. Any idea the worth?

Normally the length of a knife is given as it's in the closed position and placing a ruler next to the knife never hurts. Also, if you have a macro setting and can get a good close-up of the blade stampings, it helps in dating the knife. I'd also like to mention that if you're looking to sell the knife (we get asked to put values on knives often just to see them listed on ebay), you can sell it here on AAPK and will have a well informed offers. Not a Case expert, but isn't that handle material known as "rough black" ?

Blade is a little stained in spots from use, but VERY sharpe. Handle is in good condition, and the blade is tight to the handle. But my main question is "What's it worth"

Best way to determine value is to do a search on eBay under "completed auctions" using "Case 6165" as the search criteria. Remember that this knife will be somewhat more valuable than a Case XX or a Case XX U.S.A. so make sure you're comparing apples to apples. There might not be any examples that have sold during the period for which there are still records, however, if you're persistent, you will eventually be able to get a value.

Please note that there are not any exact matches in this search, all have bone handles and the conditions are different, but, as I said above, if you're persistent you will eventually get a good idea.

Your knife appears to have a saber ground blade . If so , I have one in similar condition that I am "asking" $250.00 for , however , it has been on display for several months and I haven't had any offers . It seems that stag or bone handles are much more popular .

There is a gentleman who goes by the handle of "Knifeaholic" here on the forum who is qualified to appraise your knife. Might I suggest you send him a PM with a reference to this thread and picture? He's well versed on rarity which will be a big factor in the value of your knife.
