Here I offer the Camillus/Western catalog #5. Judging by the knives shown in it, 1995. I don't know if it is old enough to rate 'knife lore' status, but I think because of the old photos shown in it, and this particular catalog's old photographs, it fits just fine. Besides, I like this colorful catalog, the knives shown, and how much Camillus tells us about thier company in it.

Good news! As Larry has done with the vast amount of literature from Schrade, he has volunteered to do the same With what CAMCO and I can provide him with and post it all, for all time, at the Schrades are Us site.

I cannot post here very much, as I have had some hand surgery and have a huge cast onmy rite han d. Please bear with me.

I understand that after 1991, all Western knives were made in theCamillus NY factory. Please note the seldom seen W47 bowie.

I am searching ebay for those chip flint fininished throwing knives. I have never seen those.

Wow Phil, I can relate & sympathize with you. I have had about 11 surgeries on my left hand, but only 2 or 3 on my right. It really lays a guys up when it comes to using the computer, especially if you are right handed (like I am).

I use NaturallySpeaking if I am going to be doing much typing. It is a pretty good program and not too hard to use.

This is great stuff Phil!!

To add to the contract work portion, here are just two of my favorite examples of the fine work done by Camillus, for other companies.

An A. G. Russell Cattle Knife with 154CM blades...and a Moore Maker Trapper with 1095 carbon blades. Both are great knives.

Thanks for your responses and well wishes. Hand is only out temporarily, and then I am back to the important thins in life, like rabbit hunting.

Nice ones, ElLobo, which shows some of Camillus' fine contract work. As they say, "knifemaker to the knifemakers".

One of the standards in these catalogs from recent years is the 'silver sword' line up, of which I have a liking for. Nothing out of the ordinary, really, compared to some of the things we have recently seen in this fourum, like Sherwoods, Richitgs, ect. Just classy looking, very sturdy (thanks to the use of stainless steel liners/integral bolsters on both counts) lockback folders. The large one is the 818 "Sheriff". Has a nice leather sheath with it. Comparable to the standard when it comes to discussing 5" lockbakcs, the Buck 110. The 818 weighs 4.7 oz., the 110 comes in at 7 oz. The 818 is just slightly thicker than one half the thickness of the 110.

The large one isn't shown in this catalog, but the all stainless one to the bottom, the little sucker with the keychain attachment, the 862 'Gambler' is. A tough little knife, measures only 2 1/4" closed.

The knife to the left with the wood insert is the 814. Always a classy touch, it comes with a neat little suede knife sleeve.

I own a few other knives shown in this catalog, any of you other guys?

Part two of this thread is some scans from a publicaton by Camillus, from the same time periad as the Catalog 5, celebrating it's 120th anniversary. You have all seen these things I am sure, done up by buseinsses, advertising taken out by thier suppliers, vendors, business associates, than then the whole thing is used for more advertising.

So what I hope you find interesting is the number of the various suplliers to Camillus. After all, the firm did not do things like send our CAMCO off to a Riverbank in Bangalore, India to pick up sambar stag shed antlers. Also, it is highly unlikely that president Jim Furgal took time during the day to cut round leather washers for the handles of the Jet Pilot knives.

I have cut out the self-congratulatory text from the publication and am merely posting the business ads of the companies that Camillus did business with to create some great kniwes.
