I got two or three of these type knives.style0 wrote:I live with my Vicotornox classic, but my dress up knife is this one. 1894 Sheffield fruit knife.
Two from England and one a USA Gorham.
Never carried one.
All of them are dull like a butter knife.
I'm a little leery of trying to sharpen them.
Having a high silver content, I would assume the blades are somewhat soft?
Does anyone know if there are any special precautions that should be taken when sharpening a fruit knife? Or is it straight forward and can be done just like any other knife?
<PS>Very Beautiful knife........
Thanks,

Mine is a bit of a "no go show boat", but I have stropped it a couple times to get it up to cutting tape sharpness.

Thanks Style,
I know these knives were designed to slice fruit and will not be able to withstand any heavy duty use. I'll give the stropping a go.
These knives will make good letter openers.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
I just added a old friend, a black bone Hen & Rooster whittler back into my EDC rotaion. I carry all 3 of these at once.
I cut my fruit and veggies with my GEC.
I use the H&R for everyday things like finger nail cleaning to envelope opening etc...
I use the Benchmade for cutting rope, cardboard or the tougher things I need done.

Looks good Gino.
I have a Boker whittler in the glove box of one of our vehicles, it's a good just in case knife.

Welcome aboard THHK. Always good to see a new face. I'm not much on tacticals but I sure like that Leek. That's one slick outfit.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
Thankfully, I had the trusty Boker backup whittler in the glove box, I slipped it in my pocket and now I was fully dressed. I hate going anywhere without a knife, it just seems unnatural not to have one in the pocket. Thats partly to do with this site, and the members here that commit to keeping the knife users tradition alive by choosing to slip a knife in the pocket and be ready for anything.
So today, I'm pairing the GEC Elk up, a #12, and a #72.
