When they can make knives with 1095, ATS-43, S30V, or D2 with quality; I would more than likely purchase them. I do own some Chinese power tools that work extremely well and I use them fairly hard. Unfortunately the US made power tools perform just the same as the Chinese power tools that I have. I don't have any hand tools from China, I haven't seen any I like.
So far the best steel the Chinese use that I know of is 440A. When they get state of the art equipment, this will likely change dramatically.
I haven't posted here in a while, so I hope this one doesn't make anyone mad. I've posted on the subject of imported knives before, and I'm squarely in the "agin'em" (as opposed to "fer'em") camp. However I have to say I think that at this point the objection to these Chinese imports as being of inferior quality rings somewhat hollow. I own exactly two, which are both Boker Magnums, and if these are representative of the state of Chinese made slipjoints then the quality is on a par with current production Case, if not better. As to blade steel, my understanding is they most commonly have 440A blades, which all else being equal, is at least as good and probably a little better than 420HC. The two Boker Magnums I have take and hold a nice edge.
My point is just that there are plenty of reasons to object to imported Chinese knives, or at least have distaste for them without the quality argument. The labor that went into making them was probably exploitative in nature. As with other Chinese production goods, they are being dumped on the American market, resulting in the loss of well paying predominantly union manufacturing jobs. Plus, certain slipjoint knife patterns like the stockman are American originals, and having one that was made by an American company that's probably been making them since the 19th Century is just a lot more appealing than one that was made in China by a company that's been doing it for five years.

This made me think of the Yugo cars. But we bommed the poop out of the factory.
